New 331 is in the car but I have a fan problem.

I had to water jet a bracket for the PS pump (got it back on Friday) and now I need to get another stainless bolt to bolt the bracket on the engine. I need to get that on before I can put the radiator in permanently. I can post some in process pictures but have been waiting to show you guys the finished product. I ordered the bolt today and should have it tomorrow.

I have already trimmed the radiator support for the radiator and just need to put 4 bolts in there to hold it down.

Here are a couple pictures. As you can tell the clearance is very tight but I should have enough to put on the belts. I also have a picture of a bracket I designed and had water jet cut. It uses a Saginaw pump and should work great with my Steeroids rack.

Well it is almost done. I need to fill some fluids, get a lower radiator hose, bleed the brakes and then I should be ready for a drive! Timing the thing should suck. There is so much on the front of the engine I can't even see the timing pointer. Any suggestions% I think I may use a small telescoping mirror to get it adjusted.

Thanks for the tip! I am unlikely starting the car this weekend. I put on the lower radiator hose and started to fill the radiator. Got about 1/2 done and heard it leaking on the garage floor. It turns out that something is not right with a freeze plug (or something) on the passenger side. I called the engine builder and will see what he says. I am pretty frustrated right now. I don't mind so much fixing my own problems but when you pay someone and then have to fix it then it become a sore spot.

My leak was coming from the 9333 head gaskets. They did not fully cover some of the water passages and allowed coolant to leak out. I will be swapping out to 1011-1 Felpro's on Wednesday. My builder couldn't believe he missed it when he put it together. He will be back out on Wednesday to help me.

since this is a cooling thread . . .

look at it this way - the external water cooling should help matters. :D I only kid because it's not a serious problem, will get fixed for free, and you know you have a bitchin ride. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the dynoed T&L engine to get a fuel injection put on it, and my original 302 to get rebuilt. And I still won't have your power. :flag:

Nice job. Wow that engine bay is full of goodies!! Can someone explain to me how those fans work being behind the shroud. I thought the fans should be on the outside of the shroud, to draw air over the entire core?? it looks great. Well done

The fans will allow the air to flow through the radiator and exit from the open areas. The fans are centered on each of those areas and when they are on the will do the same thing as a traditional plastic shroud they cam in originally. It won't effect them or how they work. The big difference is instead of having a very shallow aluminum shroud and the fans mounted on it the shroud is deeper and the fans mounted indside. If anything this may cool better with a deeper shroud. I would think that you could get better circulation from the radiator by having the extra depth. Pure speculation on my part though.

Two fans will kick on at 180 degrees and the other two come on if needed at 195 degrees.

oh OK, then you should be good. Come back with news when you get it running. Very curious if those fans at 195 will turn off. We bought a dual fan setup in a 70 camaro and that and the radiator are BAD. The fans come on at 190 iirc and they aren't on for more than 15 sec lol
