ok, i'm having a big problem trying to figure out how take off the rear drums. the wheels are off, the back end is off the ground, the quad shocks are removed and the emergency brake is released. how the **** do i remove the drum so i can disconnect the emergency brake lines. this is the only thing holding me up from have the suspension completely out of the car. the drum wiggles back and forth about 1/4" inch but it won't come off. HELP!

i tried tapping on it with hammer. it didn't help. i didn't go postal on it though.

i checked out the link posted above and it mentions "keeper bolt" on the front of the drum. i don't remember seeing anything like that on the front. can you guys tell me what it looks like or where it's located?? maybe that's the problem? there are two small bolts on the back, one on each side of the brake line. i removed those hoping that was the problem......nope. there are 4 other bolts on teh back as well but they appear to be the bolts that hold the entire brake house on the axle? those are the only bolts i see on this thing? what am i missing????:bang:

Spray some PB blaster in the lug holes if the drum is rusted tothe flange.

I prefer to use a 2X4 to whack the drum or rotor. Won't damage it, but has enough mass to usually do the job

tapping isnt enough sometimes, remember these cars arent exactly new and that drums probably been on there awhile... swing away :nice:

Lol i remember when i did brakes on my G35 last fall.

After soaking in PB blaster, i had to do full baseball bat swings with a 4 foot 2x4 to break the rotor free of the rusty hub.

ANTI-SIEZE!!!!

Okay, you've got some good solutions to the problem... here's the actual problem and why those work. As you've used your brakes they wear into the drum. The drum itself wears also creating a small lip that catches on the shoes. If you adjust your brakes you can bring the shoes inward to clear that lip and the drum will come off. The only thing that might get damaged forcing it off would be the shoes themselves but you're either not going to use them at all or replace them with new anyway. The 4 bolts on the back hold the entire assembly on the housing, but you won't be able to get it off until you remove the drum and axle.

You can't tap it.....you gotta HIT it. I just beat the snot outta mine. It will be hard to get them off if the car has been sitting. If you have been driving it, they will come off with just a tap.

i STILL have not pulled these ******* off yet. i did hit them with a hammer and they still move just as much as they were before. i guess what i'll have to do is try to adjust the brakes a bit. can this be done with a flat head screwdriver or do i need a special tool? this is the only thing holding me up from having my entire suspension off of the car :fuss::bang:

Same problem I had when I first bought my car, the shoes wore a lip in the rotor and refused to come off so I manually loosened the adjuster from the inside, and then beat it off. When you get it be sure to check for the lip because it will do that every time unless you install a new drum, which I didn't do, so mine will probably be a pain again.

yes I know its an old thread but just now doing this to my fox and having the same issues. the thing that adjusts the shoes is it on the backside and is there an access hole for it?

sprayed some pb blaster on it and going to let it set over night but I have been hammering on it for about 30 minutes now with no progress other then a huge pile of crap that came out of the drum.
