Well in addition to having face herpes, my car is now pissing me off. I had a small water leak in one of the heater hoses, so I fixed that. Then I saw that the oil seperator on my PCV system was all milky. So I cleaned that out, and checked the dipstick. Dipstick looks fine. I drained the oil, and I found only a trace amount of water in the oil. You got me on that one. Hopefully I just had some condensation in the engine from it sitting so long. I haven't blown a head gasket in like 7 years. I also have a horrendous pulley squeal, but I can't pinpoint which pulley it is. I just put a new power steering pump in, so I gather that's not it. Anyway, I'm annoyed.

I actually, pulled the belt off tonight, changed the tensioner pulley out for another one I had laying around, and it still squeaks. I think I might be facing a bigger problem. Like a water pump or an A/C clutch. I'm about to start the engine with the belt off, and see if it's the crank at this point.

mine squeals like a mofo from time to time too. i think i just don't have the belt tight enough (i have march brackets with no tensioner), but i am afraid to tighten it down too much because i have already ruined 2 alternators, most likely because the belt was too tight.

but hey, at least it goes into reverse now :bang:

The crank has a oiled bearing its not making the noise.

Put the belt on , find a breaker bar or 2ft(approx) pipe and start the car Then put the pipe/breaker bar near a pulley then put the other end lightly against your ear you will here the bad pulley, basicly your transfering the sound outward. try the other pullies If you can't get to one don't try.

But Be Very Careful Its Some What Dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nice:

By your process of elimintion it's either the water pump, alternator or a/c pulley.

If the water pump was going out, I would think it would be leaking from the weep hole in the bottom.

How old's the alternator, it could be on it's last legs?

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm going to have to get a stethiscope and give it a listen. The squealing goes away when the car gets well heated up.
