What would YOU do?

I have a 1969 Coupe 302-2V on it's way to me from Colorado. It has had mod work done on it, and all I know for sure is that the engine runs fine, it has an Edelbrock manifold, dual glas pak exhaust, new transmission, and the electrical is all working fine. I know a rear quarter panel needs work, the interior needs some stitchwork and it's gonna get a very nice paint job. My question, when I get 'er in my driveway, what would be the first things you would check out?

By the way - it may sound like I got a 'pig-in-a-poke' with such scant details, but this car is a gift from my terminally ill brother-in-law. He's moving to California to be with our family and I'm going to finish his dream for him and hope he makes it to that first cruise.

I'm sorry to hear about the situation.

There are so many things to check, but first I would check for rust so you know what needs to be repaired.

Check the floor pans see if they are intact or need replacing.

Yup, pull up the carpet and check the torque boxes. Also take a close look at the wheel wells in the trunk. Things you'll want to address before paint.

The first thing I would do is check the brakes.

My '73 Cougar is a DSO51 (Denver Sales District) car. Floors are ok; but anyplace ice/snow could "pack"; like up in the wheelhouses (especially rear) along the hood and trunk channels, etc - yeah, rust. Anyplace the nasty white-or-wet stuff could take up temporary residence is suspect.

I'm guessing poor Kathryn lived with people who didn't believe in garages
