3.73 Gears. Too much?

I always heard "stay away from 4.10s it's too much gear!"
so naturally I bought 4.10s
hoping to have the rear done with 31 spines and mosers finished up by august. There's no such thing as too much gear :D

275/60 mickeys

have QA1's with 14-175s up front doing a full UPR rear with strange shocks... havent made my mind up on springs yet. need to make a pass with the bottle to see what kinda MPH i'll be making and where im at before i make the leap for 4.30's. even though i can build the rear id rather not have to keep swapping gears till i get it right

Mickeys + my combo=broken parts. Many of them. I need to upgrade before I can run slicks :(

Im putting 4.30s in my car as we speak with 9" ends going on the rear, and all this gear talk is relative, guys on the motor or spray are gonna want more gear as long as thier motor can support the target rpms, i know what MPH i trap at and with the new setup i should be around 6400 through the traps, it dosent bother me that i will be cruising 300 rpms higher at 65mph and 500 rpms higher at 80mph, its really not that much, overdrive is a wonderful thing, now if i had a turbo car, i probly wouldnt run more than a 3.55 gear from what ive been reading recently.

Its hard to sell anything more than a 3.73 or 4.10 gear to the bolt on five oh crowd, because its been in magazines forever that 3.73 is the way to go with a 5-speed, while thats a great combo(ran it for 5 years up till now), its not black and white, different people want different things and even a bone stock 5.0 could work very well with 4.30 gears and a good set of tires

yes SCREW the 3.73 gear, go higher... If the car runs well, the mpg should be good..

if people are worried about MPG they are driving the wrong type of car... i have a 2000 S70 for that. i learned early on that you need to have 2 cars if you going to be doing stuff with one of them.

Its not as bad as you would think, in 5th, its only 300 rpms at 65mph.

My buddy has a T56...i think it came from a Camaro. I'm not sure, but the ratios in it are such that his 6th gear is just barely longer than 5th in my 3550 and if you look at the ratios it looks more like they slipped an extra gear between 4th and 5th to make 6 gears when you would expect them to just take a typical 5 speed ratio and add a 6th gear.
