hey all

its's certainly been a while for me. my mustang has been great ever since the 5.0 swap with a t-5. this summer i put the dearborn hood scoop on and it's mostly been for looks. to make it useful i want to turn it into ram air: 1. what are the specs for cutting the hood? 2. is there a kit for the carb to hood?

i was thinking i could just cut a hole and fab up an air cleaner type induction where the hood scoop can become useful

thanks for your post

A 68-73 ram air air cleaner is not cheap. Even the 71-73 fiberglass repros are going to cost you at least $500 (and probably more). Figure $1000 for the 68-70 setup. Just the seal alone is $125 if you can find one.

They are mostly for looks as you are not going to get any ram effect from a low scoop like that - just the cooler air.

Use a regular small block air cleaner and try to find a seal (maybe GM?) that will slip onto the rim. Get a 289 Hipo lid for the air filter. These air cleaners have a larger diameter than the ram air ones so you can't use that seal.
