KRC Pump w/ Factory A/C

I've recently swapped out my manual TCP rack for a power unit (thanks bnickel!!).

Now I'm trying to figure out the pump.

Basically narrowed it down to a GM TC pump or a KRC pump. I'm not interested in the factory pump for various reasons.

Does anyone have photos of KRC pumps installed with factory AC brackets? i have a Sanden conversion, but it's bolted up to the factory brackets...

Mainly want to know whether or not one of the KRC pumps with a bolt-on reservoir will fit or if you must go remote.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Have any pics ? We usually use a Saginaw pump that has it's own brackets that comes with the pump.Mounts off the pump. It's a self contained reservoir. I know we used it in a 37 ford that already had AC and it worked fine.
 
How is the steering feel with the Saginaw pump though?

I really don't want the overboosted feeling.

Going to take off the AC compressor / bracket tomorrow and measure it, been too busy to get around to it...
 
I think the feel is just fine, not over boosted at all. For lines, I got them with the rack from RRS. The first time I did this I got a HP line with a fitting for the old Ford pump. Ended up having a custom one made with the a AN fitting and bought a Saginaw GM style to AN adaptor from Jegs about $10. New what to order the next time and got the right hose from RRS. If you don't have hoses yet just have them made. Cost is just a little more but you can custom fit them so not to long or short.
 
KRC and AC

What did you end up doing here?

I too just installed a Total Control Power Rack and am trying to figure out what do in regards to the pump.

KRC makes a pump mounted resrevior system and a remote tank system and I'm trying to figure out if I can use the pump mounted system and still be able to install AC later. I currently don't have AC but would like to plan appropriately for the future and not have to switch it out later.

Do you have photos of your set up?

I had to make a business trip out of the country so plans got sidelined for a bit.

Will be back in 2 weeks.

I made it as far as 3D modeling the KRC pump w/ bolt-on reservouir. Figured since I had the tools available, might as well spend a little time myself seeing if it'll fit. When I get back I'm going to do up the AC Compressor / bracket.

I really want to use the KRC pump due to the adjustable flow valve. Why spend this much on the rest of the setup and go cheap on the pump was kind of how I looked at it.

Runner up is the Saginaw Pump w/ combo AC bracket. That's my backup plan...

Let you know more when I get back in the country.
 
I am working on a similiar problem right now with my car. I am running a blower and wanted to relocate my alternator to the drivers side. I moved it to mount on the head (where the AC compressor is normally) and am mounting a Saginaw pump below it. I am using a march bracket as a sample but moving the pump out slightly so that it does not touch the Alternator. I am fabricating it out of 1/2" aluminum plate. I dropped my wood template and a CAD drawing (emachineshop.com) at a local water jet company today to get an estimate. It should look pretty sweet when it is done.

I go to a local hard to buy some spacers and will need to order a longer 5/16" bolt to mount the bracket.
 
I'm finally back in the States and finished the 3D model with the air compressor and bracket.

Mostly bad news...

Doesn't appear that there's going to be any combination of KRC pump / bracket / factory AC mount. The factory AC mount, with it's heavy cast design, simply takes up too much space. Where the pump will want to sit for pulley alignment means that the bracket is going to be seriously encroaching on the KRC pump bracket's space (take a look at the blown up attached picture. The "pyramid" shape is the problem.

Now, some of the aftermarket Sanden compressor brackets look like there may be some hope. This one is showing some promise: 1967-1970 289 302 Ford Compressor Mount Kit

Regardless of what AC bracket is used, it looks like the standard KRC bracket simply doesn't put the pump far enough to the driver's side for the bolt-on tank to clear. Really want to run the bolt-on tank since I have no good place to put the remote one.

Anyways, will update when I get further along.

Figured I would update since I finally succeeded!

Ended up buying the pump / bracket / pulley from Unisteer. They use a different mounting bracket for the KRC / GM TC pump which mounts to the timing cover / water pump and lower the pump to a location which no longer interferes with the AC bracket.

Pump + brackets + pulley was $300 shipped from Unisteer

Used Aeroquip TFE stainless braided lines and fittings from Speedway motors ~$100

Total of about $400, much better than the $700-800 that TCP wants!!!

10secgoal - I ordered the "low flow" valve which the guy on the phone told me matched up with the 2.1 gpm valve which is standard in the TCP rack.

Not entirely sure that is what I got because the effort is really light.

I'm going to order another valve to increase the effort a bit, but need to make sure that the standard KRC valves fit the pump (don't see why they shouldn't, but this one has a banjo fitting were the KRC pump does not).
