460 swap

I have a 460 in the Capri. :D Well it's out right now, car is in pieces. They fit fine, K-member helps. If you want to be in the 600-650 HP range, it's easy to do with a small block or big block. And while it will be a little more costly to build the 460 to that power level, it won't cost as much as building a decent windsor and then adding the SC or turbo your going to need to make the power you want.

Weight will be a big factor, and it just depends on what you want to do with the car. Show only, coolness factor of a big-block wins every time. A lot of street use, small block definitely for weight distribution and handling. Race car, you're better off spending all that money on chassis/suspension then do a milder motor, big or small.

When I finally put the Capri back together, it will likely be with a 514-540 inch big-block, EFI, C4, with a 9" rear. Right now it's a junk yard 460/C6/8.8 rear.

460 = boat anchor.
too much weight and unless you build the hell out of it, you'll end up with a heavier, slower car

theres a kid in the town i live in with a 460 in a 70 mustang...its beyond slow

:notnice:
There is a kid with a 351 in a mustang around here that is slow too.

The 351 will not make the power a 460 will.You will need the added weight of a blower to make the power of the big block.Which will make the boat anchor even closer.

Build a 460" small block.

Reallly tho, for a street car lets be realistic, 500 hp is plenty to ring a set of drag radials thru 3rd gear. If you built even a 408 RIGHT you could make over 500 hp, and run mid to low 10's on motor, drive it wherever you wanted and if the 10's arent fast enough spray it.

With the power that a small block can make for the money it dosent make sense to weigh the nose down with a big block to me unless your like the guy with the 572 BBF with a 106 trying to compete in a true 10.5 class.

And the motors nothing if the rest of the car cant keep up, either way, expect to spend alot of money everywhere

Based on my research thus far.......you're exactly right. 408 wouldn't be bad. Or even just doing a 347. I don't mind boost, but if I can make the power naturally aspirated, I would be happier. And for me, there's just something about a big block that I like. The sound, the feel, the respect.

Again, I need money. :nonono:

i got a magazine article where they did a david vs goliath test with a 351 windsor bored/stroked to 427 and a 460 bb bored stroked to 557ci...the windsor was boosted with a centrifugal sc and the bb was bottle fed, they didnt have the dual tunnel ram they wanted or the nitrous setup, but it still put down over 1100hp...david didnt win this battle, but it wasnt far off...it got me thinking about using that setup for a drag only car...
