There's this plug on the shifter base and I don't know what it's for...it's probably something simple but I just don't know. Here's a picture:

I see you are running a 5 speed, just a guess but maybe the car was an automatic and that is a plug for the lights under the gear select indicator??

It doesn't look like it belongs there, I guess it may also be for a reverse light circuit or park/neutral switch?

Does it have power with the key off? Or only power in acc/run?

Someone else will more than likely chime in with the right response.

Well I had worried that maybe this car wasn't even a real 5.0, but I checked my vin at https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/VIN_tools/default.asp and it turns out it's a 5.0, but it doesnt say anything about the transmission.

It's kind of disappointing...I mean it shouldn't really matter since it's a 5 speed now but still... :cautious:

The trans type is not in the VIN, it's on the door tag. Look under the transmission code (TR). If it starts with a T, it was an automatic.

Here's on online door tag decoder for reference:

No worries, though, my 5.0 is a converted AOD car too. As long it was done well, it should be perfectly fine. One benefit to an AOD convert car is that the AOD cars generally take less abuse than the T5 equipped cars (at least in stock form) to the rest of the drivetrain since the AOD absorbs a good amount more power than (parasitic drivetrain loss) the T5.

Yep on the door jamb my code is TRRBB so it's definitely an automatic born... Oh well. I would have never known. And I still can't tell the difference. Still a t5 right?

More than likely, it's a T5. Look on the driver side and look for the Borg Warner stamp. A T5 case is heavily ribbed.

If it shifts well, the clutch feels good and it grabs nicely, more than likely it was installed correctly. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it and enjoy rowing through the gears. :)

Not if I drove it!!:D

Based on the VIN you sent me, this is what I got from my repo program.

Body Style: 2dr Hatchback LX Sport 5.0L Automatic

Thanks!

I definitely have seen a Borg Warner Stamp on the side and it is ribbed. I'll check the code stamp to make sure what kind it is but here is an older pic of it. Also I have some vibration in 4th and 5th (felt it really bad today coasting in 4th at 4k rpm). The clutch fork moves up and down really fast and seems to make a lot of noise. I'll have to get it checked at a transmission shop tomorrow. I definitely don't want to mess with that!

Edit: I have a new shifter base gasket on the way and some new tranny fluid that I hope will fix it... or am I hoping for too simple of a solution?
