Ok so today I picked up a ford racing B303 cam to go along with my other stuff and I need help deciding what heads to get. Ok so far I have theese waiting to go in.

GT40 Upper and Lower Intake(explorer)

B303 Cam

1.6 Crane Rockers

2 Different length push rods

Already on the car that would swap over

Professional Products Throttle Body

C&L Mass Air Meter

BBK Long Tube Headers w/offroad h pipe, flowmasters(I think it's 2.5 exhaust)

Soon to be

Either 3.55 or 3.73 gears

So originally I was thinking of getting GT40 heads but some people say I'll get more out of it if I go with something like AFR or Trickflow. As far as cost I only have $155 wrapped up in the stuff not on the car including the cam, so I am really budget so far. Can I stay on a budget and still run 12's? Keep in mind this is a street car not making it a drag car, it will mabye see the track 5 times....

since you have so little invested I would stick wih the gt40's. wih your combo and a set of slicks 12's should be easily attainable with gt40's.

I understand your doing a budget build, however performance demands the coins. If you want to be happy with your future combo, go big dont settle for less.

I have the same build, but with a stock cam and tubular cobra. I'm makeing 348rwhp with 6 psi.

Look around for a set of afr's or Trickflows, you might come across something good.

In the end, you'll be happy you didnt go with p heads.

Not to knock anyones combo's, P heads are good for a budget build. But not if your planning on keeping the car and making more power. You'll only end up going back to the heads and swapping them out again.

Edit: My friend is running a similar combo, and he's putting down almost 370 with a set of trickflows. He's running 16 degrees timing.....

It's all about long term goals. If I where you I'd just go with GT40's if you get a good deal on them maybe send them to Thumper460 for a port job if you have any spare coin. TMOSS can port that lower for I think for around 100 bucks. I think 12's would be fairly easy.

Check to make sure those GT40P heads will work with your BBK headers. Dont quote me on it but something is telling me they wont.

Id say gt40s, cheap and will get you in the 12s
if you decide to spend the $$$ and go with afr's or tfs definatly bump up the cam size, like X cam or tfs stage 1 (or anything around those)

AFRs are very nice heads, but if you dont plan on making more than 500 rwhp there is no real NEED for them. Im running Edelbrock Performers, 1.90/1.60 valve, one of the first and oldest designs, and im making 500+ rwhp with them. I was going to get trickflows but didnt want to convert my pedastal rockers to stud mounted. Now AFR does offer pedestal mount rockers so i might go with those when i get a dart lol. My DSS block has 2300 miles on it, and im already wanting more power, and im not risking it with a stock based block.

i can port that lower for you if wanted (i would) becasue thats a good bump in air flow on that intake=more hp ive done i think 5-6 now and it always picks up hp.

heads i would go with AT LEAST p heads, but get long tubes and take out the bump in the exhaust and smooth out the intake side a tad, and it will run like a raped animal.. if you find some used X 303, TFS, or eddy heads, i would definately go for a stage 2 trickflow cam, this will make alot more power.

oh yeah with the P heads, valve springs are mandatory, not optional!!
