***** damn ..now I got a code 96. What is going on Code description is "Fuel pump secondary circuit fault" . What is that? A relay or something? First it just started running bad, now it wont run and sounds like it's going to detonate when I try to run it. Grrr.. damn Ford electonic sh** .

Ok, so which relay under the MAF sensor is for the fuel pump? The one nearest the air filter... or the other one?

Just letting you know, the pump primes and all. And last I checked I had good fuel pressure. Look in my other thread about code 66 as I specify everything I did.

code

*EDIT, just saw you referenced another post, I'll go read that one now*

I'm pretty sure a code 96 just means the computer logged the fuel pump lost power at some point. Could be just from stalling if I'm not mistaken. I don't think thats the root of your actual issue.

I checked the coil. Pulled the coil plug from the dist and jump started it from the solenoid while the key was on. It's generating a nice long arc to the main dist plug terminal, so obviously the coil is fine. I unplugged the SPOUT connector and cranked it. Didn't make any difference on starting. When it cranks, I can smell gas fumes coming from the exhaust.

The fuel pump relay is located underneath the driver side seat.the relay that youre referring to under the mass air meter is called the wot cutoff relay.

On 86-91 , it's under the drivers seat. 92 and 93, it's under the MAF sensor next to the WOT cutoff relay.

BTW, i'm no longer getting code 96. It must have been from the engine rapidly stalling out while I was cranking it. That turned out to beat bad spark plugs and wires. It's running again but now it's back to rapidly surging and running rich on cold startup. Note my other thread.

Thanks for trying to help though.
