i was out driving for like an hour so engine was at operating temp, the gauge never went over the r in normal, got home popped the hood and it was like a wall of heat, just wondering if this is normal for our cars, recently ive had people commenting on how hot it felt.

coolant looks brand new, no bubbles at all, level is good, the top rad hose gets rock hard after about 10 min but figured that was normal when pressurized

any insight?

I had the exact same problem before. For me it was a forward catalytic converter that popped and plugged up the back two catalytic converters. Catless H-pipe fixed the problem.

the stock guage is worthless. you really need an aftermarket guage to see what is really going on. a wall of heat doesn't really tell us how hot the motor is really getting.

When it happened to me, it was exactly what you explained, like a wall of heat. I had an aftermarket water temp gauge on the car, and the coolant temp was totally normal.

The engine bay of the SN95 is well known to heat soak 'cause there aren't any proper hood vents to allow hot underhood air to escape. The design of the vents on the Shelby GT500 looks exactly right for reducing heat soak so it might be an idea worth copying.
