I went to the opening races of the 2010 season of Formula Drift yesterday. Im not sure if anybody here follows drifting but it is one bad a** sport. For those of you that dont know, Falken Tires and this year Monster energy drink sponsor Vaughn Gittin, Jr. Last year he drove a supercharged 2010 GT. This year he has a brand new mustang with a supercharged version of the new 5.0. The thing is an absolute monster and won first place in the event. I just wanted to give everybody a heads up on just how amazing the new engine is. If you guys have the chance to go to a race this season and see this beast in action do it. you can got to formulad.com for the places and dates and to get tickets.

If this is the green wheeled, black and green falken mustang. It has been said that was not the 5.0. Just had the badge.
Edit: Just passing word of forums. Not stating for a fact that it is not.

Your eyes must be bad because the car uses a SC 4.6 Ford Racing motor.

I had no proof, but there you go. Thanks all or nothing.

Tloggins: Whipple does have a supercharger coming out for the 5.0. The 2.3l at 7 psi on pump gas is said to put it around 600hp. This is from Lethal Performance.

Its a 5.0L version of the FRPP 4.6 aluminator crate engine. So yes its a 5.0, however its not the new 5.0L TiVCT in the 2011 Mustang. Not your fault because they did put a 5.0 badge on the car. I can see how that can be confusing.

why would they use the old 4.6 with the 5.0 being available? and if they are using the 4.6 then the falken race team dont know wut they are talking about and i highly doubt that is the case.

The older 5.0 mod racing engine is a very proven and reliable race engine. With a lot of race time on them. So as of right now its a great choice for his race car. When more people start using the new 5.0L TiVCT engine, more teams will switch over.

Link to the 5.0 (4.6) mod block.

2011 Ford Mustang GT to go Drifting as New Vaughn Gittin Jr. Ride : Auto News

The exterior styling of the 2011 Mustang has been changed to resemble Gittin’s RTR-C variation on the street. His relationship with HRE Wheels has always been outstanding, so it’s no surprise that he’s sporting some new ones. Falken Tires is now campaigning a new RT-615K tire for their drift team. Other than that, while the new 2011 Mustang sports a 5.0-liter V8, this drift ‘Stang still uses a 4.6L supercharged V8 from last season, laying down well-over 600-hp. The great news is, Justin Pawlak (who previously drove the Bergenholtz RX-8 we reported on earlier) will be driving Gittin’s 2010 Mustang in competition this year. Plenty of American muscle swinging sideways! We’re excited to be at Formula DRIFT Long Beach this weekend!

ROUSH doesn't even use the new 5.0L engine... The race team told me that the few teams that are racing with that engine are having electrical issues up the a$$...

So, winning racing teams stick to proven power-plants...they will eventually go to the new 5.0 once all the bugs are sorted out and its proven itself on the track...

thats funny you said that because at the opening ceremonies he couldnt get his car started and had to be pushed off the track

ok so i apologize for confusing the engines but i have just gotten word that the engine that they are using is in fact a 5.0 however it is not the new coyote engine. so just a clarification.

just curious but the SC is just gunna be bolt on right? no internal work or new fuel pump or injectors needed?

Not for sure. I'll post what was said along with the photos.
Edit. My guessing is no you will not do any internal work. But I would love to see around 500 to 550 with a straight bolt on kit. No fuel work or anything. I'm not saying that will happen, but it is what I would like to see.

We've got some exclusive info about the all new Whipple Supercharger kits for the 2011 5.0L Mustang GT. How about 600hp? That's right. The new 5.0L 4V motor for the 2011 GT rated at 412hp will soon have the ability to make 600hp. Thanks to our good friends at Whipple for making this possible with their W140ax 2.3L supercharger kit. The kit for the 2011 GT will be offered with a 5" air-to-water intercooler and massive "Crusher" style inlet system which was designed to minimize restriction and maximize airflow. The Crusher inlet for the 5.0L is almost identical in size to what Whipple currently offers for their 2.9L GT500 kit. The 5.0L should make around 600hp @ 7psi which is the maximum boost level recommended for pump gas applications. Kits will be available in black or polished as well as complete kits with fuel system and tuning or tuner kits without fuel system and tuning. Be sure to stay posted as Lethal Performance will indeed be getting one of the first kits made to sport on our soon to be built Grabber Blue 2011 GT.

Here's a few spy pics never seen before of the 2011 5.0L Mustang Whipple 2.3L supercharger.

I'm in no way in partner ship with Lethal. Just passing the word along. If this needs to be removed then please do so.
