Which drag radials?

Looking to get drag radials for 05 GT. I have Nitto 450 series 275-50-17 on now. I want tire for street and weekend drags. New supercharger leaves me up in smoke at the line. Are the name brands worth the extra money? I was looking at Nitto 550 series 275-40-17. Thanks

GOOD LUCK..LET ME KNOW WHAT KINDA INPUT YOU GET FROM PEOPLE... I HAVE 295-35 18'S, JUST A GOOD SET OF TIRES NON-DRAG RADIALS, AND @ ANY RPM IN 1ST I FLOOR IT I'M BOUNCING OFF THE REV-LIMITER, AND THEN SLAM 2ND AND I'M BURNIN EM AND SMILING ALL THE WAY THROUGH 2ND! Fun on the street, but not when we need to hook!! I had BF Goodrich drag radials on my NOS Vette and I would spray 100 shot right off the line and never EVER even got half a turn outta them if i warmed them up, but the Vette was auto and independant rear susp and would squat like hell and dig in, but those tires were the ONLY ones I ever got perfect spray launches with w/ that car.

In my mind, there are only 2 choices for drag radials. M/T ET Streets and M&H Racemasters. Which one you go with depends on your setup. The Racemasters are about 28" tall while the M/T's are about 26" tall.

You said you have a supercharger. If you have anything lower than 3.31 (like 3.73 or 4.10), I'd go with the Racemasters. Since they're taller, they'll hook up a bit easier for you, and you won't run out of gear so quickly.

Plus, they look badass :) I'm assuming you're on stock wheels, right?
For stock wheels:
M&H:
(e) 275/50R17
M/T:

what about for my 18x10's?? Right now i'm runnin a 295-35 18" tire and can get 125+ outta 4th so I don't really want a taller tire w/ my 3.73's...

Nitto 555R will last longer than other drag radials and they are supposed to be a better in the rain; however, they don't hook as well as other radials. Do you plan on keeping these on as a d/d? 275/40/17 is a short tire. If you plan on using a dr as d/d and track tire, I would go with M&H racemasters 275/50/17. A friend of mine uses those as his d/d on his 05 K/B supercharged Mustang.
I just recently purchased the M&H 275/50/17 and they hook at the track.

If you're looking for the track, I would suggest moving to a 17", or even 15" wheel. However, for the 18x10, here's the M/T I would recommend. It's the 305-35/18
Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels

Nitto 555R's are alright.. but really, they're not great at anything. They're OK on the street, they're OK in rain (if you MUST), and they're OK at the track. The M&H is a great D/D tire (again, except for rain). The M/T will wear out faster than the M&H on the street.

Contrary to what was said in the previous post, there's no such thing as a good drag radial for rain, and I would highly caution against driving a drag radial in the rain. If you get stuck in the rain, make sure traction control is OFF (if you leave it on and hydroplane, you'll spin out), and baby it. Drag radials are terrible in rain period, no matter how good you are at driving.

I'm not sure about the 2010+, but on the 05-09, there are only a couple that fit and it requires grinding. Weld XP's are the only ones I can remember off hand. I'll try to dig up info if I have time.

For my car which is N/A and have 4.10 gears would you say go for the m&h also? My 60 foots are 2.15 with my street tires. What kind of 60 foot could I expect with DR's on there? I have an auto trans with stock converter. Should I install a line lock for the burnouts too?

Am trying to decide DR's or detroit rockers. Maybe both!!!!

4.10 NA I'd probably got MT. I couldn't get below 13.0 with boltons and 4.10s in my '05. I run that with just a few more mods and 3.31s in my '07. I wouldn't run them without 4.56 or forced induction. Not at the track anyway. Awesome street tires though.

What size are they. thx

patrick

They're 255/50/15 and mounted on a set of 15x7 V6 Mustang wheels. They handle my 465fwtq (about 390@the wheels) 415lbs/ft (360lbs/ft@the wheels)of which I'm seeing by 2,000RPM, with ease. :nice:

I run BFG Drag Radials (275-40-17) at the track. Even with a Vortech V2 blower, 4.10 gears, and a 4800 rpm stall converter, my car dead hooks with no tire spin. 60 foots are in the 1.79 to 1.85 range consistently. I've run BFG DR's on my last three Mustangs and swear by them.

Those are the same tires i used on my Vette..and w/ the same results... I could spray 100 shot right off the line and never get anything more than an occasional chirp of the line..EVEN ON THE STREET!!!

for 17" you cant go wrong with ET Streets. I do 1.58- 1.61 short time on those.
For my 18" street wheels I run Mickey thompson 305/45/18. It is a taller tire (28") that will give you more MPH at the big end. Their 35 series is too short for my tastes in the looks department too. I do 1.59-.164 with these 305/45/18 M/T tires.
