Mutang Miles/Value Question

So I thought I'd throw this out there for opinion. I have a commute that is 80 miles round trip, each day. I now have a new 2010 F-150 Lariat and 2010 Mustang GT. My original plan was to split the mileage between the two and likely move up to a new 5.0 GT or a GT 500 at the end of 2011 or in 2012. I have no plans at this time to trade the F-150 anytime soon, but you know how that goes, you never know.

What would you do? Would you split the miles evenly or put more on the F-150. From a gas mileage perspective, there really is only about 2-2.5mpg difference on average and that is if I take it easy on the Mustang. Which one do you think will hold its value better?

I think they both lose about the same value per mile really. The truck might get more resale simply because it has more utility built into it. Meaning that on average more people would lean towards a truck than a sports car. Also with the new engines coming out :shrug: If they don't take boost really well then our cars might have a better resale value because it would be cheaper to purchase a first gen s197 and blow it than it would be to tear into the internals on the 5.0 and 3.7. Just a thought
 
Man, I took the new stang out today and opened her up a little for the first time. Sweet. No, I don't have the 5.0, but the 4.6 still makes me smile. The 3.73 gears with traction control off really wake this thing up. Those 5.0s are going to be awesome.
 
I do an 80 mile commute in my 06 every day. But, now I am thinking about the 2011 0r 12 provided finances are still ok...

Anyhow, the high mileage knocks off the valve for sure. We are keeping our older F150 (01 Supercrew) and I could drive it, but I like driving the Mustang. Could drive the Flex too, it doesn't get the mileage.

Go to a web site like msn/yahoo autos or kbb and price a 2 year old Mustang with low and with high mileage. See if it is worth the hit to you. If it was $1000 or so it would be to me, I just like the Mustang that much more than anything else.
 
Personally I would put the miles on the vehicle that you intend to sell so it is worth more. I have the 'stang and just bought a new Jeep so we have decided the the wife's car is going to be sitting a lot for it to catch up on mileage since it is an '09 and already has 52,500 miles on it! We want to trade her car in at 90,000 and the Mustang and Jeep aren't going anywhere for a very long time so to us it just makes more sense to put the mileage on them.

That is what is puzzling me. I did that. I went out and looked up the value of a two year old Mustang GT Premiere inputting various mileage and there wasn't a big change, unless you put in excessive miles on the high end. I know when I was looking at used 2-3yr old GTs, there also wasn't a huge difference, condition being the same, between 25K and 45K. Over 45K and the value dropped pretty fast. F-150s were about the same, except the mileage was even less of a factor. That is one thing I've noticeds. There are a ton of high mileage (>150K) F-150s out there and they still run and have some decent value. I have't seen many Mustangs with that kind of mileage and the ones I saw were not worth much.
 
It that case, I'd just drive all you like while trying to keep it under 45000 miles. Higher mileage doesn't scare me, mine now has 79,000 and my 88 has 357,000. Bought both new. My Wife's 01 F150 SuperCrew has over 200,000.

However it bothers most people, so that affects the selling price. Just keep it clean and under say 45/50k. You'll be good to go with your plan.
