I have a 97 GT and need a transmission, 5 speed.
I have found a reasonably priced 5 speed the only issue is the replacement is from a Cobra 1381-002. My tranny is a 1381-001.
My research ion TTC Automotive shows the only difference is the Cobra tranny has the crossmember bolting location 97.9 mm (3.85 inches) further back on the transmission.

Has anyone installed a Cobra trans in their GT? How did you overcome this issue? short of moving the crossmember brakcets back the additional distance?

Thanks

i'm pretty sure there is not a difference. i have never heard of anything being different other than the crossmember for the 03-04 cobra with the T56

edit***** what year is the cobra trans? 99 and up has an electric speedo. that may be the difference. what prices are you getting?

The trans is out of a 96-98 Cobra. Priced at $400.00

Is there a difference between a GT T-45 and a Cobra T-45 from 96-97? [/B]
Yes there is, but it is small. All the GT T-45 had 8 tooth speedo gears and the crossmember mounting location is more forward as compared to the Cobra's. In later years, they became the same location. All other parts are the same.

I have seen some postings saying you can swap the GT tailshaft onto the Cobra tranny and solve the crossmember issue and do the same for the 99 trannys....to solve the speedometer issue???

thanks

Good news.

I found a T-45 from a 96 Mustang GT for 300.00 within 25 miles of me.

I picked it up last nite.

I plan on having a transmission shop check it out prior to installing it.

Any tips?

thanks
