Hello all, I threw a thread up in the newbie forum... but as we all no not a lot of people check those :drool:

Anywho, I have a "Screaming" Yellow Mustang GT, and love her to death. Performance wise, she has a Flowmaster Exhaust, A GT/Hurst Shifter, and a Steeda strut tower brace. I have waiting to put on her a new K&N Intake, BBK Throttle Body, Steeda TB Spacer, Steeda Charge Motion Plates, an UnderDrive Pulley, and some other misc. mods.

So, to the questions.

Question 1:

I want to run a Staggered wheel setup running 17x8's in the front and 17x9's in the rear. The reason for 17's is for a few reasons, but I like them a lot so :p . What kind of rubber would you recommend? I searched and found no clear consensus. I had a set of Yoko's on another vehicle and the only problem I EVER had with them was noise.

Question 2:

I want to grab a good suspension setup before any more mods go on the car. I am a huge twisty fan, and this monster can do some great things on mountain roads here and on the autocross track. Any thoughts on a good setup?

Question 3:

For Daily maintenance I want to change out the plugs, injectors, and change the oil. I just recently picked her up stock about 3 weeks ago and have no idea if the dealership that sold her has kept up on just the basic upkeep. So, better to be safe than sorry. Recommended Plugs? Champions? I would like to stick to copper plugs... they just work well for me.

I want to do an entire brake overhaul with new rotors, pads, and maybe a caliper upgrade to boot before I go crazy on the engine. I want it to be able to handle both the increase in power and the roads I drive her on (need to take some shots... gorgeous roads out here if you know where to go). Then I delve into the engine bay.

Anywho, Hi!!! Been lurking for a while and decided to join a few days ago. Should be fun!

Congrats! nice car but I gotta tell you 17 inch wheels will limit your possibilities for performance. You'll be forced to run a huge sidewall which will deflect and bounce all over the place when pulling some high sideloads. Also a lot of people here mix and match but I'm a fan of a good system that works (Roush setup in my case) and fine tuning it as you go. I started with a Watts link and J&M rear control arms to dial in a more precise rear and, and went to a Roush suspension which is well designed and allows for great cornering with an 18 inch wheel. Now I have way more suspension that my poor 235/50/18 tires can handle :)

Another reason not to run 17in wheels is also because big brake kits will not fit with those which is something you want to consider.

Thank you for the insight. I deeply appreciate the info. I will look into some decent 18's that I like and aren't too heavy.

If you like the style a set of takeoff GT500s will give you excellent clearance for big brakes as well as fill your fenders up a little. All while getting tires and Pressure Sensors. An excellent deal which I hope to take advantage of soon.
 
Here is just a list of things I am looking at for the suspension. Opinions and idea's are MORE than welcome. I know my way around cars and engines, but I yield to people whom have been working with these cars for longer than I!


- I already have the Steeda strut tower braces,
- Steeda Adjustable front Sways, and Steeda rear sways,
- Steeda Lower Control Arms
- Looking at the Tokico adjustable suspension kit but the stage 2 suspension kit listed above sounds tantalizing!
- Looking into springs... I don't want to lower the car too much, a short drop would be preferable but still getting some great springs...

...and more ideas are welcome. After car payments, bills, obviously this is going to be all done in "stages."
 
Well all I can say is save up for a complete suspension system. You already have Steeda sway bars which is a good starting point and it'll save you some money. Most suspension packages already come with sway bars so sounds like to me you could pick up a set of Steeda Ultra Light or Sport springs (if you prefer a slightly taller ride better for daily driving) and a set of Steeda shocks to complete your package. Throw in either some GT500 insulators (cheap) or some Steedas competition units and your suspension package is pretty much complete. With the ultra light springs you will most likely need an adjustable panhard bar to recenter the rear of the car and obviously it wouldn't hurt to get a bumpsteer kit and some X5 balljoints along with some camber bolts to bring the front back in line so your steering will be precise and won't eat your tires.

I just got a set of these off ebay. Brand new take off with sensors, balanced, SVT center caps, etc. They make the car look great and it it handles much better. Going with 18s gives you a billion more tire choices than any other size wheel out there.

I've seen sets going for $1499 on newtakeoff.com, but I found my set on ebay and the company was "local" to me so I just drove over there to get them. $875 before tax. You can't beat that.

Thanks guys!! I am adding the Steeda Sport springs to my list. The suspension alone is worth less than the wheels and tires even after shipping. I am probably going to go with that then save for some good wheels and tires.

Anybody running the caster/camber plates? Looking at a set of these but want some insight on if they are well built and worth the money.

She will be riding really well after all the suspension. She is a daily driver but at the same time she is for weekend driving out in the mountains too.

After the suspension power adders are next on the bill.
 
Camber plates are really nice because they eliminate the problem with strut insulators popping apart when you lower the car AND allow for more precise dialing in of suspension settings..... however they are a bit pricey compared with a set of GT500 insulators and some camber bolts and don't address any issues with bump steer and roll center adjustment which is more money you'd have to spend either way.

I really only recommend those to you if you're going to be going all out and build a track car that will have its alignment settings dialed in to the T for every event otherwise it is a lot of money for a feature that you'll get to some day, plus a lot of shops that do alignment will stay away from your car if they see adjustable plates not so much camber bolts.

Welcome, and very nice 'stang...I love the anthrecite bullitt wheels.

Just a suggestion, but the common concensus is that you would be better off saving your money on the TB spacer, Throttle body, and K&N intake.

It has been pretty much proven that the TB spacer does nothing.

The stock throttle body is more than sufficent for the air flow of a naturally aspirated engine. You might see a benefit from it if you were F/I but then I would go with a GT500 TB. There have been issues getting cars to run right with the BBK TBs

Use the money that you save on the TB spacer and BBK TB and get a package with a C&L Racer intake and a tuner. You'll get much more bang for the buck out of a good intake and tune. Make sure to get the tunes from a reputible tuner. I like Brenspeed myself.
