question about catalytic converters

whats the difference between regular cats on magnaflow catted X and the magnaflow catted x with SPUN metal cats?

Are the catalytic converters stock from ford considered high flow or are they restrictive? Would I benefit in sound or performance by replacing them with high flow cats?(spun or non-spun)

The factor cats do flow well but are not true hi-flow cats. There is a substantial size difference. Both my magnflow and pypes cats are about 1/2 the size of the factory cats. Aftermarket hi-flow cats will be louder. The sound or volume level will be between the factory cat and an o/r set-up.

I agree I wouldn't replace the factory cats with hi-flow cats, but the OP was asking about the two different catted x-pipes. Replacing the factory catted h with an x-pipe with hi-flow cats will change the sound and I think that's what the OP wants.

how would ceramic differ from metallic other than heat insulation?

Metalic is supposed to flow better and be more durable than the ceramic.

interesting....Do you know if Magnaflow still uses Catco catalytic converters?
If I can get some decent prices, I might have some welded in-if i can find the Catco equivalent. Would this effect my warranty? Any other input is appreciated....

I am pretty sure they use their own cats. When I had an o/r prochamber, I had magnflow cats welded in. The price for parts and labor was $320. I am a little confused on what you are doing? Are you replacing your factory cats with hi-flows or buying an o/r midpipe (h, x or prochamber) and then having hi-flow cats welded in?

You cannot LEGALLY replace them unless they are defective under Federal law. One type. Is recommended for blowers but I'm not sure which one.

That's a good point. VPSTANG could buy an o/r midpipe and have hi-flows welded in.

In a state where emissions testing is not conducted, how in the heck would they even know what you had on your car, unless you had NO cats and a stinky car? Then the cop that pulled you over might peek underneath and see no cats. But if you had new hi-flo cats...he wouldn't do anything about it?

I am not sure but even if the states emmisions requirments are lenient I bet exhaust/muffler shops will not replace the factory cats with hi-flow cats. If the car has hi-flows you should be okay except here in Cali. Hi-flow cats are 49 state legal.
