I am looking at a 76 Cobra II. It is missing the side and rear louvers, also the center console. How hard and expensive is it to find those items?

I would like to do a resto mod on it. From what I am reading, the big issue is finding headers that will fit and get past the bell housing. I am wondering about swapping the gear set out for a more aggressive set like a 3.55.

Side louvers are around $100 for a decent set on Ebay. I found mine on there for less than $50 with shipping. They need some repair but was a easy fix. So deals are out there. Rear louvers are like $300. Center consoles are fairly easy to find. All of these part are on Ebay right now. Sorry I can't help on the header question mine had headers (unknown brand) when I bought it.

Header's aren't really a problem if you don't change from the stock motor/transmission. The II had a special auto and manual bell. Smaller than the rest of the Ford fleet. The Heddman and Hooker headers fit fine with those stock parts, change from those and you will probably run into issues.

Thanks for the other info

As to the Headers, the car was equipped with a 302 originally but now has a different 302. Not sure what year (how can I tell) and dont know why it was swapped. Tranny is a 4 speed. I am looking to get it, if it all works out. Body is solid, needs the usual TLC on interior and exterior.

As to headers, is there a special model or type to look for on the hooker and other brands?

Part numbers with revision suffixes and casting dates.

For that data there is no shortage of references.

Check the floor for pin holes.

Other places too, but , hell , thats another thread.

The headers just have to be specificly for the 74 (ok really 75) to 78 V8 Mustang II. Make sure they fit those years some companies for some reason think mustang II's were made into the 80's.. :nonono:

The Hooker base part # is 6120. Two options paint and ceramic coated. Not cheap though and you wil need to figure out how to connect them to the rest of your exhaust.

Heddman part # 88350 & 88356 the last # being ceramic coated (expensive)

Again for these to fit the best you will have to have the factory II bell housing, and double hump X-member.

Keep in mind the '76 Cobra didn't come with rear window louvers from the factory, just side louvers. The '78 (or '77 1/2, technically) with the wide single stripe was the only Mustang II with factory rear window louvers. Finding a set of those OEM ones is difficult and expensive. But, finding a new set of aftermarket ones is fairly easy.
