my 5.0 finally came in after almost 2.5 months!

2011 mustang.

I ordered mine on February 25. Mine was completed April 21. Still sitting on Ramp 51 in Michigan. Ford Rep. said they have 4 problems they are dealing with. one is the SYNC system and another is the Automatic transmissions. Don't know what the other two are. Rail Company told dealer there are 7500 New Mustang sitting on the lot waiting to be shipped. My original delivery date was May 9. That was later changed to May 18th. Received a call from dealer on May 20th saying my car is supposed to ship on May 26th. Called Ford today (June 1) and they say my car is still on ramp 51 in Michigan. Sure would like my car.

GT Premium, Race Red, Charcoal interior, Active Alarm with wheel locks,6 Speed manual transmission, Hood scoop and rear spoiler and 3:71 rear end.

So what's the deal with custom ordering a car? I like the idea of the car being delivered directly to me and no jagoffs getting their greasy mitts on it (aside from me, of course). Do you pay a hefty premium for custom-ordered? Is there still the same bargaining/haggling?

Custom order means you get every option you want and only what you want. It means nobody test drives your car. It is delivered to the dealer not to the buyer. You can usually get a better deal price wise as the dealer doesn't have to sit on the car for any length of time.

To eliminate some of the mystery of the special order, consider that every car a dealer gets is essentially a custom order, just by the dealer, as opposed to a customer. So instead of my dealer ordering five mustangs this week with whatever options he thinks will sell, he orders mine and then four others. If you don't mind the wait, a custom order is the only way to go.
