So after the winter, with the addition of the explorer intake, and spacer, etc i finally ran out of hood clearance. At first I had just cut a hole to clear the front portion of the upper, then that gradually turned into a bigger hole, because it looked funny. I couldn't convince myself to go and shell out the 700 bucks for a new hood, so i began the search for a hood scoop initially. I wanted a fox scoop, or a new edge scoop, but with little luck i found a scoop off an 05 for cheeeeaapp. The crappy thing was, i got it home, and to my suprise the hole was wider than the scoop...Oops should have measured first. So that got me off it for a while, until last night. I was messing around in the garage, and i got thinking how cool shakers are, and thought what the hell, its not like the car is a real show stopper...if i mess up. So after many beers, and a sheet of aluminum from canadian tire, here's how it is shaping up. After the pics, i shot the plate, and scoop with flat black paint. It's going to have weather stripping to seal it to the hood also. I still have to come up with some sort of bracket to hold up the back, right now its got one off the intake elbow, and the ear off the upper.

Im thinking i might make a trim ring around the shaker, then maybe a flat black stripe going up the middle of the hood too...

I have to agree that in the pics it does look funny, being that you loose the dimensions of things under there between all the fiberglass dust and so on. It does look better in person, especially painted, with the weather stripping on. I will try and send some more pics when the sun comes out, when its cleaned up. It also works good, because i don't have the 5.0 plate on the top of the intake. Because of the spacer, i'm using ready rod, thicker washers/lock washers, and nuts up top, so it doesn't fit anymore....now i don't have to see it!

As far as VC clearance, no alternator issues, but they would not clear the intake without the spacer. I would of had more room, but i'm still using the vacuum port on the bottom rear corner, 90 fitting, and barb only add 1/2" or so. Also for the record, they clear 1.72's good with the baffles removed.
