That unto itself creates a snubbing effect within our own stepchild status. It is bad enough no one else likes us, but I have heared way too many times snubbing within the II crowd over that. An interesting perspective...no doubt some truth to it too. However, as with the classic stangs and Fox cars (and not counting convertibles), the II's came in two different body styles that appealed to two different groups of people.
Remember too, that the notchback Mustangs II's were an afterthought of sorts on Ford's part, almost never to be....saved only after mixed reviews of the fastbacks along with positive reaction to the notchbacks were obtained in certain markets. So, perhaps moreso than with many cars, there was some real division about their styling issues from the start.
As with the classices and Fox bodied cars...there will be those that like one style better than the other. I like both styles in each group. As for II's, I have a fastback and that is probably my first choice. But, there have been many times I really wished that I had a Ghia too. The standard model is my least favorite, the reason being that they generally lack many of the better interior and suspension components and options that make it a substantial improvement over a Pinto. This however, in no way means that I would pass judgement in a negative way about a nicely restored base model.
