If that guy does good work then have him do the cage, that would cost around $3000 from a good chassis shop. My 8pt was 850 and 400 for the thru the floor connectors.

Just be careful ive seen some pretty botched jobs on the internet of chassis work.

he does amazing work. ive seen many cars that hes built and he knows what hes doing. i know hes hooking me up greatly just having a hard time justifying the cost. i guess if i spend money on anything it should be the cage

You should not have a hard time justifying that, for that price he is barely even making money, a full 10pt cage is alot of work. If you buy a prefabbed moly cage its not gonna fit as well as a custom one and those are still around a grand, I'd bet if you paid someone to put a prefabbed in it would cost you more then 1700 in the end

What are you going to be using the cars for. Street, 1/8th mile 1/4 mile and about how fast you gonna be running. A 2000 dollar cage is nice and all but if your only runnin 7's or 8's or so in a 1/8 mile all that cage is a waste.

To each his own and everyone is entitled to an opinion and I'm not saying anything negative towards you here so please don't take offense but I don't care how slow your et's are safety isn't something to play with. You never know what the car next to you is gonna do. Having too much cage and never needing is better than not having enough when you did need it.

To the OP..... invest into the cage, 1. you know it's gonna be done right because it's a custom fit and you've seen his work and know he knows what he's doing. 2. $1700 is a steal for what your getting. 3. Can't put a price tag on your safety in this hobby/sport of ours.

All i'm saying is that u will be perfectly safe with a plain jane roll bar depending on what speeds you are running. Also The comp eng stuff is good stuff. Have one and helped intall several. Couple hundred for the 10 pt kit, buy a welder and weld it in yourself. You will still be able to do it for less than 1700 plus you will have a welder. Just my opinion though

car will be around 650ish to the ground and maybe some gigle gas for the fun of it. lookin for a low 9.

no doubt my buddy is doing me right just keep seeing prefab set ups for cheap. not sure y they are so cheap

They are cheap because they are mass produced and they are mild steel instead of chromoly. Same strength just a few pounds heavier. I had a car flip in front of me at the track once and roll about 3 times. He had a comp cage and walked away. Ran a 6 flat at over 120 in the 1/8. They work. I'm sure they won't look AS good as a custom but are you building a show car or a race car.

I didnt say they dont work, they will get it done but with the custom job you can move the door bars one way or the other to make it easier to get in/out of the car, and you can tell the guy building it exactly how you want it.

If i was building a real budget car that i planned on selling or say racing on a show like pinks, i would do a pre-fabbed job, but if it was my street/strip car i would put the money into something i really liked, cause your gonna have to live with it every time you get in/out of the car and look at it
