Im looking at buying a mustang again. I regret ever getting rid of my 86 gt hatch and i wanna get back into the stang world. There is a 94 gt with 80k and mods close by at a dealer and they're asking $7995. he said it has underdrive pulleys, long tube headers, flowmasters, cai, and cobra upper and lower intake. i might be forgetting something, but anyway it sounds like its a little to much. Any good price to start at how much should i try and chew this car down?

Yeah. $7995 sounds a bit steep for a '94 GT even with any mods and 80k. I paid $6500 for my '95 Cobra with 99k last year. I would offer them $5k and see what they say. 8)

I agree, 8K is way too much. I looked at 94 a few years ago at a Ford dealership that that had a shaker hood and a bunch of bolt-ons. They were asking 6999. I offered them 4999, and they said no and I said call me if you change your mind. A few days later I bought my current car from a kid across town and not 15 minutes after I made the deal the dealer called and said they would take 4999. Too Late! Anyways, with the economy the way it is, set a price you would be willing to pay and stick to it. If they want to move the car, they will deal.

You should be able to find a new edge for $8k.

I wouldnt pay above $5k for a 94-95 GT. Maybe a little bit more for a cobra....then again, a cobra isnt worth it to me unless u get into the 96+ cobras. You are gonna replace everything on the cobra...that makes it a "cobra" anyway. So besides the vin number...it'll be like every other modded 94-95 stang.

so i shouldn't pay any extra for the mods on it. because i'm assuming thats why such the high price then.

There are lots of nice 94/95 GT's out there for 3-4,000 bucks. So at 5K, you are still paying for some of the mods. Actually, after looking over the mods you listed, 5K seems abit much too. I would offer 4K, maybe alittle more if the body is super clean. Also, do the mods fit in with your plans for the car? If not, you will just be pulling that stuff off anyways. You should be able to get about 6-700 bucks for the parts. Keep that in mind when you set your price.

yeah the body and paint all look really good. theres no rust on the car. its also got a cobra front bumper and chrome cobra r rims. the leather looks pretty good inside its not ripped or have major cracking on it. and for the mods thats pretty much all id do other than prolly putting a new set of heads on it. not sure what kind of cam it has though. i was probably thinking about 5,500 as an offer on it.

Mods never add value in my book unless they are extensive mods (like race car stuff). For all they know, u dont care for that stuff and it might as well be stock. But if they think the mods are important to you then they will try to upsale them. I say to go and low ball them. Walk out if they refuse. Trust me....no dealer in this economy wants to lose a sale.

First time i bought a car from a dealer...i tried the walk out method. I couldnt even get out of the front door and the salesman ran and got his manager to come stop us .

There are so many cars out there....those mods are $500 spent in the classifieds section on the corral. The cobra intake is decent, but if you are already thinking about heads before you even buy the car then i promise you.....you're gonna want more than what the cobra intake offers after you get it. haha....we ALL do man.

Whats the blue book on 94-95 gt's now a days anyway? Can u not find 1 from a private seller?

Dealer Blue Book for Excellent condition is 5500, private party is 4000, trade in is 3000.

Dealers generally don't give you anything for any aftermarket stuff, so you can bet they probably on gave around the 3K for the car, maybe less. I agree with nmcgrawj, go in there in low ball them, the worst that can happen is they say no. But 5500 still sounds too high to me. I would rather find a private party and buy a similar car for 3500 to 4000, and take that extra cash and buy the parts that you want rather than line the pockets of a dealership. Walk in there with 4,000 and see what happens? Money talks!

LOL i tried buying a 95 gt with about the same setup as the one im looking at now and this was about 2 yrs ago and the guy wanted about $8900. so i went in with 5K and he laughed and said he thought i was a lot more serious than that. So i left and never went back then a week later he called said he would come down to like $7800. so i went and bought my truck instead.

Keep in mind that Kelley Blue Book considers excellent condition to be virtually like new, which most cars are not. This car probably falls into the good category, which knocks the value down about 300 bucks each level.

do you guys think it could be cheaper to just buy a 6cyl and convert it to a 5.0

Nope, not at all. While the conversion can be done (see my sig for my Cobra clone conversion), you'll need a wrecked 5.0 to get all the brackets and miscellaneous hardware anyway. The only reason I could see to do it is if you already had the V6 and wanted to learn how to do the swap. If all you want is a 5.0 and you don't have a Mustang, it's just easier to just buy a 5.0.

I got my 95 GT vert in awesome condition inside and out for $4750. It was BONE STOCK with 73,000 on it. The only things that didn't come from the factory were the tires and coil, and the coil was replaced the day before I bought it. It still had the dated ignition wires on it. I have since put Taylor wires on it and it has been trouble free for the few months that I have had it. I probably could have gotten it just a hair cheaper if I had driven a harder bargain but there was another interested party and it was only one detail short of EXACTLY what I wanted and it made up for that by being convertible. I was looking for a car that HAD TO meet the criteria of black, 5 speed, power windows, power locks, working air conditioning and V8. Very desireable was the tan leather interior, Mach stereo, and unmolested mechanicals. I was hoping for a 99-04 (the one detail short) but couldn't find one in my price range that met the other requirements so when I found this one and it was convertible, I jumped on it a little faster that I should have but I am COMPLETELY happy with the purchase. ZERO buyer's remorse. Hold out for what you want and go in with enough cash to close the deal at the price that suits you. Bottom line, $5500+ for a 94-95 coupe is too much.

I agree 5000 or lower for sure.

I admit I paid too much probably for mine. Back then dealers wanted around 13. I paid 7500 for a car that was rode hard and put away wet with a big dent in the side lol. I wanted the lime green car though and It was "cheap" compaired to the dealers prices
