Who would have thought I would have some many problems figuring out a motor for this thing? I want boost!...but I want it to fit.

I want to convert my 65 to 331 with fuel injection but I don't know what intake will fit under the gt350 hood. I oringinally wanted a turbo but there is no room and the cost would be too much to justify it. So I am looking at superchargers. Anyone have an experience with aftermarket efi intakes and hood clearance in a 65-66?

Thanks. I searched the forum but couldn't find much about this. I would go carb too but the paxton guy says I have to use a dual plane intake to use their enclosure for blow through...and says if I don't use that enclosure, and use a carb hat instead, drivability is crap on the street. Is this true?

I have never had a car with boost. Help!

Sound like your talking to the wrong people. I have had both a Paxton and now have a turbo. If your worried about cost, then just back away from thinking this is a "cheap" mod.If you mill the carb base on a vic jr. it will fit under a stock hood, but a Edelbrock RPM is better. As far as drivability, that depends on your tune.I went from a carb to Powerjection III fuel injection with my turbo and the car will start and idle like my 06 is runs smoother then ever.

Thanks for the replies. I have quite a while to figure this out but I like to have a good idea going in what I will need because I hate buying parts more than once.

I agree that perhaps I have talked to the wrong people but I know full well that this is not a "cheap" hobby. However, with the quotes I have gotten for a custom turbo, the cost just didn't seem to justify the novelty of having a turbo vs. a supercharged combo. The quotes have been upwards of 3 times the cost of a blowthrough system (if I can make a blowthrough work). Keep in mind that this will be the first forced induction combo I have ever run on any car, so I am sort of flying blind here.

I talked directly to Paxton/Vortec and was told that the victor jr would not fit with the GT350 hood. So, if by milling the intake it will fit, that is great news. I was also told that the carb enclosure that Paxton uses is FAR superior to a carb hat on the street and I simply have no experience with this. Is this the case? If I use a Vic Jr, how much would have to be milled assuming I am using TCP drop motor mounts (about half an inch)?

Both rides are very nice. I have never thought about using a Retrotek or Edelbrock efi system. Any issues with tuning on either?

Thanks again for the replies.

Not to hijack, but I am wondering the same info. I have a 331 w/S-trim in my 95 coupe and was curious if my Performer RPM EFI intake would fit under the stock 66 hood?

I have the Edlebrock Performer EFI and it fits. It is very close to the hood but but it works. My other issue I had was the V brace. I tried a couple different brands, but ended up making my own to fit. I have heard that the GT40 intake with a little porting is a great intake especially for the money!

I have the paxton supercharger on my 331 with a vic jr and a carbhat.

Decided not to use the carb enclosure !

With a low style carb hat i didnt have to mill anything from the intake to make it fit.

Its a squize but its working.

The most work was the dyno tuning, everything is good now and it has loads of torque ! A blast to drive !
