JMod: Yay or Nay? Gimme Some Opinions

But what is the difference between the two? : shrug:

I think the 75s are rated to hold more torque. Not positive, tho.

So, FRPP cooler, B&M cooler, or Advance Auto cooler?

And, remove accumulator springs or no?

You J-Modded your trans; did you remove the springs? And if you added a tranny cooler, which one did you use?

I know there are more folks here who have done the JMod...

I removed the springs and I cant remember what rating I have but its a B&M think 24000 !

If you have a 98 4R70W in your car you have alot more work to do with the J-mod then the 99+4R70W, If you plan on doing it just study alot and take your time and you will be fine !

Yea, I'm still doing my reading and studying up on it. I haven't actually decided yet if I want to do it. I really don't want a harsh ride. If I didn't mind taking it back apart and putting new fluid in again, I'd go in and maybe do one thing at a time (drill the holes first, drive it, then decide if I want the springs out, or possibly the reverse order). I guess I could keep the (new) tranny fluid clean and reuse it. Heck, I don't know.

I think I'm gonna get the FRPP cooler. I've heard good things about it on other forums, and as I said earlier, I like the fact that it's FRPP.

And Laser, I checked the fluid. It is pink in color and doesn't appear to have anything at all in it. I let it dry on a paper towel and all that is left is a pinkish/reddish stain. So I think I'll be fine to put new fluid in.

What's wrong with just getting a shift kit? Some I've seen on 50resto are around $75

The J-Mod is free. And was specified by the guy (Jerry) who designed the 4R70W transmission. He says that the J-Mod is the best "shift kit" for our transmissions, and that other "shift kits" are not good for the transmission, and well, I'm gonna take his word on it. Along with the other thousands of folks who have done the J-Mod and are satisfied with it.

:nice:
Not only that but when i blew my first trans in my tbird teh shop put a stage 2 transgo kit in, and it sucked, at times on WOT it wouldnt shift into 2nd it would go into Neutral, cause of a fail safe pressue valve the transgo comes with, needless to say i lost a lot of races until i just upgraded and got a street/strip vavle body cause i was too chicken to do the j-mod myself haha.

I hate to bring this back up, but I'm to the point of having time to do this, and I still haven't made up my mind.

What is the difference in the 98 4r70w and the 99+ (specifically an 01) 4r70w? I drove my granddad's 01 the other day, and forgot just how much I loved how it shifts. Smooth as butter at part throttle, but easily chirps the 1-2 shift (the car is stock). If mine would do exactly that, I'd be way beyond satisfied. What is the difference(s) in our transmissions?

Will the J-mod make it shift similarly to his? Or is it going to make it firmer than his?

no harsh ride at all!!

my buddy has an 02 with a j mod, shifts fast and smooth at normal driving, wot it will spin 2nd gear and chirp 3rd, it shifts damn fast as well!

i dont remember you having gears either do you? cause your trapping 85 in the 8th, im N/a and go 83mph, that would be good for at least 2-3 mph prolly..

No, no gears. And yea, I'm expecting a couple of mph and tenths. I recorded .4 seconds 0-60 difference when I was NA just by upping the shift pressures and changing the shift points around. So I'm hoping I'll see similar results here.

Can anyone tell me the differences in the aero and new edge 4R70Ws?
