I had a leaking transmission pan, so bought a new pan, new gasket and installed everything last night. I had also bought 5qt of Type F transmission fluid ... or I thought I did (grabbed them all off the row on the shelf).

I put in the first quart and realized that it was Dexron. The rest were type F ... being stupid, I just put in the rest of the Type F.

What does this mean for me?

I took it for a drive in town last night, and had no issues.

Then this morning, I try to take it into work, get on the interstate (65mph) and I'm throwing smoke out the back and it comes into the cab.

Is this from the 1 quart wrong tranny fluid? Or is it something else? Doesn't smoke at all in town, and I don't think the "smoke" smells like exhaust.

Thanks for the help!

AT Fluid

There is not much difference between Type F and Dexron. In street terms Dexron is a little "slicker" with lower coefficient of friction and has smoother lockup properties. In my application, use Type F in E4OD to "promote" quick lockup and less slippage/heat buildup. I want that sucker to lockup. One can tell the difference when complete system is filled with Type F. Also with the F type, can keep the gearset hooked up(forget if its Simpson or Rav) when slowing, rather than trans freewheeling.
As for the smoke, imagine (1)you spilled some fluid on exhaust system, or (2)pan is leaking (blowing back) some fluid on exhaust system.
But you are on your own when making these (fluid) changes. They may little harsh for some apps.
