Cobalt SS....

With your mods, you should easily butt-rape him.

That said, I've rode in and driven a lot of different cars since my days of being a mustang fan-boy and I've learned a lot. So I'll say this: any bolt-on 2V had better be careful what they wish for if they roll up on a ss/tc or an srt-4 with a bit of work done to it.

My friend with an 09 ss/tc with only GM stage 1 and an intake put down something like 285hp/297tq at the wheels. He hasn't ran it at the track yet but its def. no slouch. Another friend with a turbo'd balt and a bit more work done to it is running 12.5. Christ the Caliber SRT-4's with Mopar Stage 1 and intake/exhaust are putting down over 300/300. And as ugly as the Neon srt's are, the aftermarket for them is a lot bigger than that of the calibers.

You can't outrun ugly but you can make it pretty damn quick with a bit of work. If you're dead set on running one do it at the track where you have the launch advantage. The ss/sc's I wouldn't worry too much about, but every now and then you might find one that will surprise you.

Just sayin....

Isnt it even worse getting smoked by an ugly car!?

I wouldnt race a tc balt from a roll....not in a near stock 2v anyways

Worse than what? I'll assume you mean it's worse to drive a Mustang that loses to an ugly car, than to drive a Mustang that is faster than the ugly car in question.

2 things to remember, fast is relative and looks are subjective. Lets use the Ferrari California as an example. The Ferrari California is ugly as H, but would probably mop the floor with most of the Mustangs on this website both at the track and at the road course. Once you upgraded any Mustang's suspension and engine enough to beat the Ferrari California both on the road course and at the track, would it still be driveable enough to enjoy on a sunny afternoon?

I don't care how fast another person's car is, I like cruising in my car listening to the sweet sound of my V-8. A 1957 Chevy is not a fast car either, but I would own one in a heartbeat because it's a great looking classic car that would be loads of fun to cruise in.

WOW! subjective is right...ugly as H*** is a phrase I've never hear to describe a Ferrari California...sexy as H*** maybe :D

but ya, somebody is always gunna be faster, or at least claim to be...there is a lot more than just being "faster" otherwise we'd all be driving turbocharged, big block Foxes ;)

That's exactly what I am saying. Plus we're talking about a Cobalt SS. If asked what sounds and looks better a V-8 Mustang or a Cobalt SS, most will say the Mustang (unless it's a Mustang II :D). You can argue all day that a Cobalt will beat up a 2V Mustang GT, which it may, but it's still an ugly Cobalt with horrible sounding exhaust.

TRUE that!

That thing looks like a knock-off corvette.

Give me a ZR-1 any day over that Over-Compensator, the cobalt ss is not gonna beat a modified PI mustang, those cars are still quick and light, its just not fast car, suspension is not gonna hook either. Look up the suspension stats, its one thing having 260 HP's in the engine, its another thing getting that power to the roads. Give a drive-shaft over CV axles anyday. The Cobalt wouldn't handle well w/more power than it has. Not w/out some serious suspension and wheel ugrades, ask the all wheel drive cars what happens when they get more grip in one wheel then the others mainly the WRX's, that viscous coupler is not fool proof and as effeciant as one might think!!!!

If I ever lost to a cobalt I would run my car into the first wall I seen at the time. This would mean my car went at least a 14 second 1/4 mile. To the OP if you lose you need to have your stang rights taken away.

I disagree completely. If you are willing to ruin your car over some ugly, noisy, annoying POS 4 banger car go ahead. There are plenty of stock import cars quicker than many of the V-8 Mustangs on this forum. Regarding the Cobalt SS, they can be very fast if you throw the right parts at them. Do you really think we should all lose our stang rights just because some ghey rice rocket is faster?

Once again, the real joys of owning a V-8 Mustang is not that you have the fastest car on the street (cause you don't), it's because they are just so darn fun to cruise around in with the windows down and the exhaust rumbling.

wow...IMO that Ferrari looks 100% better than the Chevy penis extension..er Corvette ;) ...and no stupid see through hood either. I don't think they've made a good looking Vette since maybe the late 60's (with the possible exception of the 78 Indy Pace car)...but that's why they make more than one flavor of ice cream

and good point about "light and quick" many people confuse that with fast, but it's not the same thing

I hope you're referring to a stock SS, but I would hardly make such an absolute statement like that. A "modified PI mustang" isn't exactly a world beater. I would know, I've owned two of them.

Just sayin, you can hate on these cars all you want but don't be surprised when one of them makes you look stupid.

And your point would be? Its only 260 Hp w/supercharger and the suspension on those cars are'nt the best GMC could do, trust me. I'm telling you those cars might smoke a very average Stang but, anyone w/any car savy can outrun those cars in a PI mustang w/mods. This is not even worth arguing. You kids need to look way beyond horsepower and start doing some serious physics. 2000 hp isn't worth garbage if the car can't put it to the ground. Have you seen the tires most of the cars come w/. Hell the Dodge Chargers come w/some skinny bicycle tires and I know I can outrun most around were I live, and yes they are V-8s, and the Super Bee isn't that much faster at 460 HP. This not a Douche bag moment. Quit worrying about those little vehicles and put your time and energy worrying about ZR1's or those what I like to call "The Over Compensators" aka Ferrari's and Lambos. Sheesh!:D

Stock/average PI Mustang = low 14s or high 13s on a good day.
Basic modded PI Mustang = mid 13s on a good day.
S/Ced Cobalt SSwith a pulley and driver = mid-high 13s all day long
I'm sure the turboed SSes are even faster than that.
Bolt-on/minor upgrade SRT-4s go low 13s easy.

Don't think I'm sticking up for the imports or bashing the Mustang, as I'd never have it any other way that I do right now, but credit has to be given to these cars. I've seen more Mustangs lose to a Cobalt SS than win.

Oh really, lol !

99% of FWD tuners around my way WILL NOT race from a dig, because most know a low 13 at the track is more like 14s on the street but you will hear a **** load of talk like "hey man you want to go from a Roll" :nonono: !
