3g alt.......belt squealing

well, i installed my 3g alt and i am charging up good but my belt is now squealling. my set up before the 3g alt install was no smog or a/c and i did nothave the tension pulley on and it did not squeak. i have underdrive pulleys too. i got the 3g off a 95 taurus and the pulley looked about the same size of the underdrive pulley on the stock alt so i did not change it.

i thoiught i could put the tensioner pulley back on but i think it might be bad. it will not budge. how do i tell if the tensioner pulley is bad?i searched the forum but i was confused  i can't figure out how to get the pulley to adjust to a different height. also, i was thinking i might need to put the underdrive pulley on the 3g since it did not squeal with the old alt but it is super hard to take off. anybody have any luck taking this pulley off and how did you do it?

what do you guys think i can do to get my belt to stop squealling? any thoughts on this would be greatly apreciated as this 3g install is taking way too long.

I don't really understand the dynamics. What would not budge? You could not remove the tensioner pulley?

The tensioner on an aero fox is self-adjusting/tensioning. It can take some effort to move it however.

The bolt that holds the tensioner pullley has a LH thread, it loosens in the opposite direction of a standard bolt. I found this out the hard way when I stripped it taking the pulley off...

sorry for the confusion. let me try and explain better. if i put the tensioner pulley back on now and have the belt go over the top of the pulley it does not touch, so no additonal tenstion is created. if i try and route the belt under the tensioner pulley it pushes it all the way into the waterpump pulley so it is rubbing against the belt on the waterpump pulley. so that does not seem like an option.

if i route the belt above the pulley, how do i get the tensioner pulley to swing up to create more tension on the belt? or is that possible? i was unsuccessful trying to do this last night and that is what i meant by the tensioner pulley is not budging.

i hope that clears things up a little so you guys can give me some advise.

thanks a lot

The belt goes under the tensioner and it's hitting the belt on the water pump pulley because the belt you have is too long, get a shorter belt and your good.

thanks, right now when the alternator is unboldted, i can slide the belt on by hand but it is pretty tough.

do you think a half size smaller should be good? I have underdrive pullies with no a/c or smog.

thanks again and any help will be greatly apreciated!!!!!!!!
