Best company for T45 Trans

I was looking at 3 companies for possibly a new trans, I will find out monday the good or bad news, depending on how you look at it.

I am looking at buying a built one from either

Promotion Transmission

Keisler Transmission

Or a TKO 600 from D & D

I want a T56 but can't drop $3,000 plus for the conversion, due to I have to replace the clutch, and flywheel while I am in there.

Also, I have to have this done at a shop, due too I have no real place to work on the car, right tools or the time, so labor will be close to $1,000.

Thanks

I don't personally know anything about these companies, however, I bought some shift forks from Hanlon motorsports. The order was easy and I felt like the people I talked with were knowledgable.

In any case, you'll probably want some stronger shift forks. The stock forks are cast aluminum and are prone to breakage. I've had no problems at all with powershifting after going to the redesigned hanlon forks.

Exactly why are getting a brand new transmission, are you planning on selling the vehicle?
I would keep the tranny housing and completely gut and rebuild, you can find a transmission specialist to rebuild your transmission w/way stronger parts, just ebay a transmission rebuild kit. Just do your research. My experience is not w/transmissions, but w/engines. What I do know is how to break one and find someone to rebuild it better, probaly stronger than stock. That would proably be the cheapest option.
I would only get a new tranny only if something is wrong w/the stock housing. Only the moving parts need rebuilding. Like the bearings, gear sets, so on and so forth. My .02. Best of luck.:nice:

I thought about rebuilding, but I couldn't find a shop in my area that seemed to spealize in after market trans rebuilds. Most of the ones around me just build the trans back to factory specs, and the T45 isnt that strong, and has some flaws with the internals. I want to go supercharged later, and don't want to break another trans. Thats the main reason why I looked at getting a whole new one.

Does anyone know how much a rebuild should run? The shop quoted me worse case as $1,000, which I believe is a ripoff.

Thanks for your imput, and I'll take a look a Hanlon.

$1000 is a very reasonable price for a rebuild in my opinion, but it also depends on how much they do. Just as trombonedemon said, so some research and figure out how to make the transmission stronger. The T45 is actually pretty strong and a good transmission, with a much higher torque capacity than the old T5, but still has a few weak points. The stock T45 shift forks are cast and break first, yet are a huge PITA to replace. I've also heard the syncros aren't the best. But both of these issues are related to power shifting, or shifting too aggressively. In terms of holding big power with reasonable shifts, the T45 is a good starting point.

I though $ 1,000 was resonable too, untill I found a brand new reman at a website Rebuilt T45 Transmission - Mustang T45 For Sale for only $ 745.

So, thats why I feel like $ 1,000 is a rip off. I know Hanlon has a rebuild kit for $ 375 and Promotion has a rebuild kit with a 26 spine upgrade for $ 425. However, I don't know if the local shops are capable of a performance build.

if i were you, I would just upgrade the synchros with carbonfiber units, upgrade to a 26 spline imput shaft, and upgrade the shift forks with some hanlon forks. dont know of anyone that does micropolishing but you could see about having the gears micropolished as well. This would make for a pretty good t-45. Also do all new bearings and seals as well. Where are you located at by the way?

There are very few shops that specialize in performance transmission rebuilds, especially on a less than common transmission like the T45. I'd recommend buying a whole transmission from someone like Hanlon. Sure, you can get a stock rebuild, but from what you stated, that's not what you want. Sure, you can have a local shop install performance internals, but I wouldn't trust them too.

My location? About 40 min drive from Infineon raceway in Sonoma Cal.

I kinda agree, although my mechanic friend gave me the number of his transmission builder that he has used for corvette trans rebuilds, both stock and aftermarket and he seems to know what he is talking about. However, his prices seem to reflected his knowledge, he wants me to supply what ever parts I want, and he will rebuild the trans for $ 800. Not too steep but not cheap either. Hanlon i think wants around $ 1500 or so and Promotion Trans wants $ 1600 for a complete trans. I like that Promotion Trans has a 26 spline imput upgrade.

To be honest I need a new clutch too, so looks like the stang will be head to jack stands for a year or two. I just don't have the money to spend on my stang. Maybe someone wants to purchase a transmissionless stang. :rlaugh:

I know I can find way stronger internals, its just I can't find a local shop that will be willing to install them. Most local shops, talking about a 50 mile radious do more oem work, then performance rebuilds.

Talk to Clutch Connection in Fairfield, CA. The owner (Rob) specializes in performance rebuilds IF THERE ARE PERFORMANCE PARTS. He is very resonable and he is building my T-45 right now. Tell him Mel sent you.

Thanks, I will give him a call. Right now, I am just dealing with the syncro grind untill funds can be produced. I don't like to get to close to the red, so maybe in a couple of weeks I will give him a call. I got a quote from hanlon for $ 1300 for a complete upgrade plus 26 spline impute shaft, but I rather support the local guy if I can.

:hail2: Mel96GT, I talked to Rob and Tracy today, told them you sent me there (they immediatly knew who you were) and I can't thank you enough. They quoted me at $415 labor plus parts which is way lower than any other shop plus they where more knowlegdeable then the other shops I talked too and they were super nice. I am taking my trans in to them in August and can't wait.

Thanks again !
