DIY air to air intercooler on Kenne Bell for 92 LX

My car sits in the garage awaiting the new Fordstrokers 363. Its been heartbreaking as this summer has been one of the best on record for Northern Maine since 1995 for the most sunny days, and days above 80. Anyway I got a call from Jim at Fordstrokers last week and he is having a hell of a time getting the Scat forged neutral balanced cranks, he says non until middle September. I told him I would hold out for the real deal and since I've been without car all summer I might as well cash in the hole season a wait until next spring to get it on the road. I have started many upgrades much needed since waiting for the engine. I started with a new mini high torque starter then went with new battery cables. I also decided to upgrade the stock alt so I went with a 130 amp upgrade with wiring kit and I paid extra for show crome. I then decided I would do the contour dual fan upgrade with the DCC controller, still waiting on the controller as there is a back log on that. I found a nice contour fan on Ebay $60 shipped and I must say its perfect. I also decided that everything going back on the motor had to match the brand new motor so all brackets and accessories will be crome or powerder coated in crome, stock valve covers are being polished as we speak. Now this brings me back to the very sad looking bar enigne bay just begging for a face lift. Well I started last week with the wire hiding/tuck job. I bought a small mig welder also and will start on welding in new panels in the engine bay and all the swiss cheese holes in the engine bay. Yes its gonna be a full engine smoothing and repaint. Here are a couple of pics since I started wire tuck which is half done as you can see I have the main harness that run over the shock towers now running through the back of the shock towers. I took out all the ABS stuff and the smog vac lines are out. Also the vac tree is relocated in the drivers side inner wheel well along with the starter solenoid and hood release cable. Here are a couple of pics of my progress.

i was hoping you would have to sell you KB setup and A2A intercooler to pay for this project.

guess your not :) I could always trade you my YSI setup so you can make 800 HP on your new motor

Here is what i did with my split bock

Here are some updated pics since I got the welder, a Chicago flux core welder from Harbour Frieght for $90. Not the easiest welder to work with on sheet metal but it got the job done, and hey I got a grinder for those Gorrila welds. I baught 2 sheets of 16 gauge steel from lowes 1x2' and another 1'x6" to build my battery box. I am happy with the results since I have never welded before. I'm gonna run a small Odyssey battery PC680MJ, it's a deep cycle good for good for 680CCA it measure 7x6x3". ALmost done all the sanding and as you can see I eliminated the mounts for the sway bar for a smooth rail look. I also took the time to fit panels in behind the head lights.

OK here she is all ready for base and clear coat which is going on Saturday morning. PITA to tape it all off, and build the make shift paint booth. The final stage of primer sanding also PITA, but it came out smooth as silk. I cut the hole for my 3" A2A pipe coming off the KB manifold and drilled 2 small holes for a clean look for battery cables to come through from the inside the fender mounted starter relay. It should look slick once done. The only thing I haven't decided on is what I will do for the air filter and inlet to throttle body. I'll have to get the engine mounted with KB before I cut a hole in that side.

Yesss....my paint man came this morning and look at the shiny nice Viper Red base coat clear coat paint job he put down. I'm so happy with how this project turned out, and especially that I am at the end of it. Now to get the motor and start the assembly and transformation back to a car rolling down the road.

A couple of teaser pics since I got the motor and have started getting it together. The Valve covers, headers and waterpump went on today. Looking good so far with the only snag being the waterpump had to be clearanced about an 1/8inch on the bottom to clear the balancer.
