Hey guys....it's been a few years since I posted. I got out of mustangs for a while but bought a 06 GT a few months back. The car came with a Hurst short throw shifter and I got a little frustrated with the notchiness so I swapped it out for an MGW.

When I swapped out the shifter I noticed a constant thump that seems to be in sync with the engine/exhaust. It can also be felt through the e-brake. I reinstalled the shifter twice and finally put the Hurst back in. The noise/vibration is still there with the Hurst, just not nearly as pronounced, which is probably why I never noticed it before.

There is obviously something going on that shouldnt be since I have never heard of anyone else having a similar issue. I have checked the shifter install and been under the car looking for anything that may be out of place. The only thing I noticed was that an exhaust hanger was cut when the previous owner had an FRPP X pipe installed. But I dont know why if that was the issue that I would hear it more with the MGW shifter installed.

Does anyone have any advice on what this could be and how to correct it? I could just leave the Hurst shifter on and try to ignore it, but I feel like there is an issue that needs to be corrected and I don't want to deal with the notchiness of the Hurst anymore. Any help is appreciated since I am at a loss on where to even start.

i had a similar problem on my old beater car. the exhaust pipe came loost and would rattle/thump under the car and u could hear it/feel it the most on the E-brake.

i would highly expect that it may be the same issue since you also stated you have a cut exhaust hanger

I would start with that exhaust hanger replace/fix problem 1st. The reason you feel it more with the MGW is because the shifter is designed to absorb all its vibrations in the base, that's why George himself states that you should never rest your hand on the shifter when driving because it will crush that bushing.
