Probably a simple question, but I want opinions on running 10W-30 in my '96 Cobra. Spec is 5W-30, not sure if it makes that much difference. Car is very low mileage (under 9,000). Your thoughts?
I'm not sure but I think stock oil is 5-20w> i have heard and seen bad things happen to the top end of the 4.6 when they don't get good oil PSI> i wouldn't run 10-30 in it > but this is just my .002
10w30 is fine. When new Ford called for 5w30, the 5w20 was back spec'd in 2001. The 2005-06 GT Supercar and the 2007+ GT500s call for 5w50. The Ford modular motors in Australia usually call for 0w40, 5w40, 5w50 or 10w60 on the BOSS models.
I think I would use exactly what the manufacturer said to use. The engineers test these things long before they reach the consumer. Of course Ford might just recommend a certain weight to reduce noise and could care less about long term damage. Who knows. Again, I would use what's called for, on the other hand 10W-30 is a very popular oil. Can I be more indecisive?
