My mechanic said: just deal with it (brakes)

Cross drilled and/or slotted rotor are overrated in my opinion. For the price especially it's not going to do much for you other than look cool. The most effective brake upgrades for the money are going to be pad choice and brake fluid. I use the stock rotors for track events and they work fine with the right pad. Hawk Blues in my case but I wouldn't run these on the street. I run Porterfield R4S's on the street and they perform great and were even fine for the track when I wasn't an advanced driver. I use Motul RBF 600 fluid which helps with the heat on track but I also have brake ducts which are not necessary for a street car. You can doe braided lines too, which I've done, but really saw no gains from this.

Brake feel performance isn't the best I've ever had from cars I've owned but it isn't bad, especially once I got used to the braking characteristics. If I had the money, sure I would step up to big brakes but I find what I have now more than adequate.

I'm going to bring this thread back to life. I now have 69k miles on my original stock rotors and they are just now beginning to pulse. Looks like I baby them! I might try to upgrade to slotted from R1concepts, just because I think they look nice.

Anyone else go that long on original rotors?

My 08 Bullitt stops better than any other car I have ever had, straight, quick, with no drama, and has for 70k miles. Maybe I am not as demanding of the brakes, but they sure seem excellent to me. I have non power discs on one of my other toys and even it stops nicely, although it takes a lot more leg to do it.

If the brakes are pulsating, yes, the rotors need attention either turning or, most likely replacement. They are most definitely a wear out part!

I was thinking of up-grading the brakes on my 07' Gt - it only has 26k on the clock - but I just bought a new fusion and it's a nice feel with the brand new brakes - I assume I can just 'cut' the existing rotors .....anyone have a really gd advise on type of pad? - I 'hate' brake dust - would be for the street only.........
