What's the best oil?

i have a 91 gt the motor is being rebuilt right now and i bought a v-1 s trim vortech to put on it. I am definitely going to use synthetic oil just wondering which is the best oil to use? i always see royal purple being promoted like its the best but i am not sure which one to use?? Any suggestions?

I personally wouldn't use royal purple. Moly based lubes tend to gunk and are more suited towards race engines which are frequently torn down and rebuilt between races.
 
I drove my race car to the track twice a week for 3 years.
Never had an oil issue that was Royal Purple's fault.
I changed my oil every 2000 miles or when I needed to service a part within the oil system.
My "street car" ran 10.20s. I believe in Royal Purple. Is it the best? Who knows, but I'm not going to switch until it fails me.

My bearing clearances, bearing crush, std rings, temp and level were maintained. Anything can fail if you abuse it.
 
Personally, I don't see the sense in running any oil that you have to special order or anything that costs twice as much as anything else out there. Valvoline full synthetic or Mobil 1 here. Pro-level lubrication that you can buy at Wal-Mart FTW.

no u can switch just keep full synthetic and idk how many ur supposed to run it for maybe like 500 or something just go look it up im sure it will say but i heard nuttn but good about it and the guys on horsepower tv use it wen the first dyno a motor or get done building a motor and its the only oil i kno of thats specific to break ins
 
Break in your engine HOW YOUR BUILDER TELLS YOU TO. A good builder will tell you what oil to run and how to do it. You'd be better off asking him than asking a bunch of anonymous people on the internet. He'll also tell you what weight to run. Just in case though, Ford specified 10W30 for these cars. Look in your owner's manual.

You have to take that stuff with a grain of salt, man. Those guys get PAID to tell you that stuff. They'll also tell you that buying an electrical gizmo that wires into your chassis will keep your car from rusting, or that some magical fluid will make your 200,000 mile car run like it was new.

Why is someone suggestion oil viscosity set by Ford at the OE level?
I can almost guarantee any new ford engine has way tighter bearing clearances than an after market, machined and built engine.

I agree listening to the machinist who worked the block, but even that should be heeded with a grain of salt.
You, individually should mock up the engine and measure each clearance and then have enough information to base a decision on what viscosity in regards to application, load and clearances. How hot the oil average is, is a huge factor.
