So my ABS light keeps going on and off. Sometimes when I let off the brake, the brake pedal "thumps" like it should when something is wrong with the ABS I assume. It happens more often when I turn and brake at the same time. I took it in to our family mechanic today and he couldn't pull any codes (the light went away, figures..) He says he thinks it may be the hydro-boost but isn't sure. He also said a power steering flush may help because it's all one unit? IDK...that's why I'm asking for help! Thank you!

Take it to a different mechanic as this one is trying to sell a power steering flush as a fix.

Suggest starting by cleaning all 4 ABS wheel sensors. Inspect each one looking for broken parts or chaffed wires.

You are posting on a Do It Yourself site. Presumably to information on how to fix it yourself.

IMO, the vast majority of professional mechanics are honest and hard working. So to presume that you are going to get "screwed" is premature. But your best protection is to DIY.

But let’s not forget that we are talking about your brakes. So, if you are not prepared to DIY, then the services of a professional should be used. Getting an estimate before repairs gives additional piece of mind.

check fluid, clean the ABS sensors, listen to our God wmburns, take it to a shop if you have to but its worth saving some money to get your hands dirty

get a Haynes manual and have at it
