Upgrade From a 96 GT To 96-98 Cobra?

Yes, they sound like a V6....but probably the sweetest sounding V6 I've ever heard. Nothing shamefull about that exhaust note.

As far as responding to mods as well as a 2V....at least you hope they don't.

Sure they're down 40lbs/ft of torque, but they're still up 45hp over the best 2V's and in stock trim are already a good 5/10ths quicker in a quarter of a mile. You'll need twice the bolt on parts with the 2V just to make up the difference.

And sure, the 4V has the potential fore more power with its larger displacement and 2-extra cylinders, but I wouldn't quite call it a superior engine. The 3.6L TiVCT is both tougher built and promotes better volumetric effiency than any of the previous Modular or Pushrod engines before it.

I too would prefer a V8 Mustang because of my own personal bias, but I wouldn't go as far to say they're superior to the new V6. As far as the rest of the car goes....well....we all know there's no question as to which is the superior built car. The new V6 runs circles around every factory GT before it on the road course, even with the weight penalty. Hell, it even outhandles the GT and the GT500.

Very bitchin ride. :nice:

Wholly agree.

basically have some bolt ons...just so my car isnt "stock" eventually maybe pi swap...but till then exhaust intake gears maybe some pullies

^ yea right > tell me another one >
You'll start with just a couple of bolt-on's and get the car to run a low 13= 1/4 mile time and then you'll get bored with it and want more > and before long you'll be like me and have more than 10g's in a car > trust me - it's a sickness :nice: :hail2:

SO im tired of my car being sluggish and cant find anyone in norcal to do my PI swap....so maybe im just gonna get a cobra....Im fed up with my 2v....4v here i come im interested in a 96-98....all comments welcome.

I gave you the name of a great shop located outside of Sac, google the name Advanced Engine Development, or talk to Epick who used them to rebuild his mach 1 engine.

You can buy PI heads and an intake for around 200 bucks at a junk yard. I've done it a couple times. No need to buy new heads or ones off of ebay/craigslist unless the price is right. You can piece the rest of it together cheap. Maybe 400-500 bucks, and you don't need a dyno tune with it. My 98 car went 104-105mph without a tune with heavy chrome wheels, stock exhaust manifolds, and stock cams. A tune will help, but if you are on a budget, you don't need it right away. Expect to pay around 600-800 for the swap.

I don't know where you are at, but if you are in a major town, or around one, they will have a bunch of junkyards. Usually, there is a part of town with a lot of them around each other. You can hop from one to another, and the cylinder heads will all be in one place. You can go through a junkyard in about 15 minutes, then hit another one. I think I went to over 30 in one full day in Houston years ago. Make sure you know the difference from the NPI ports and PI ports on the heads, and look for a PI stamp on them.

Just look at the valves, ports, and see if the surfaces looks flat. Then ask about the condition of the vehicle they came from, and they should be able to bring it up on their computer. Haggle them, and have them pressure tested if it makes you feel better at a local machine shop. Then slap them on. These heads are really tough heads. They can easily go over 300k.

96.shadow.4.6,
I have to agree... work with what you have. Build build build.
The only guarantee I can give, is that as soon as your bank account balance gets replenished to a certain point... your car starts feeling 'slow,' and you get this burnin' desire to drop cash on the next level of speed.

I've actually found my self asking: do I want kids + college, or do I want a 2011 GT 500 next? DO NOT tell my wife I said that. :jaw:

I will probably be selling my PI heads soon, so depending on how long you can wait, we might be able to work something out. PM me if you're interested.

EDIT: I also have a PI intake that I'd let go for practically nothing. It's been sitting in my basement collecting dust for almost 2 years now.
