Hi, I am looking to install an aftermarket electrical temperature guage in addition to the factory guage. I am looking for some step by step instructions on how to do this (what wire to tap into for power, where the sending unit goes etc.). I have found alot of posts on this but no real step by step instructions. I have a 67 Mustang with a 289.
Thanks.

Are you talking about coolant temp? If so, some kits include a coupler, you just cut the radiator hose and insert the coupler, then screw in the sensor. You don't need any specific wires, just use a multimeter (I got mine at Fry's for around $20) to find a good 12v switched source (0v when key is off, 12v when on).

Now, if you're talking about oil temps...then you probably need an oil filter sandwich adapter or something like that. I haven't fooled with that on my Mustang, but my Subaru has plugs on the block that are made to thread the oil temp/pressure sensors into.

My advice, install a mechanical. Just tap into the intake somewhere. No additional wiring needed, and, more accurate.
