2011 GT 5.0 or 07-09 Shelby GT 500

Stupid question but how much do you drive it and whats the MPG?

I only put about 5000 miles a year on my GT so I will put that or less on the Shelby. Bought the Shelby about a month ago and have not had a chance to drive it much around home yet, only burned up one tank. It seems to be similar mpg's to my 06 GT that has 3.73's as long as you stay out of the boost. I averaged 24mpg over 1200 interstate miles (80mph w/AC on) when I drove it home. That impressed me considering that the window sticker lists 20mpg highway.

The Shelby is a fun car for sure but so is the 2011 GT, good luck with your decision...

As an example I consider this the best of both worlds.

The dealer is asking $46,000, I've seen some as low as $41,000

Get them to throw in a ford ESP premium warranty rather than the Ford Certified warranty and you'll be laughing.

and with 540 hp :D

I have been debating the following questions myself:

1. Should I put a blower on my 05 Gt?
2. Should I buy a 2011 GT?
or
3. Should I buy a used GT500?

I am mostly interested in power (arent we all)! Im looking to be in the 500-600hp range with a forced induction setup. I barely drive my 05 Gt, probably less than 3k miles a year including several trips to the track during the summer. And that would be the same for either the new 5.0 or the GT500.

As of right now I'm leaning towards the Shelby. Ive seen some priced in the mid-to-low 30s, and I dont mind buying used, as long as the car hasnt been abused too badly. I wouldnt have to touch the car to get the power I want. And I can put the front end on a diet if needs be. Oh, and its a Shelby!

However as I say that I'm leaning towards the GT500, I keep buying parts for my 05 Gt! I love modifying cars. Theres nothing better than being able to say I built it, except for knowing how to fix it when it breaks! I cant wait to do the blower install if I keep this car! I already have a bunch of parts waiting to go on this car. (Waiting for the warranty to expire this January)

And at the same time I cant wait to see how the new 5.0 does with forced induction in the long run. 412hp is a good starting point, but the compression is a little on the high side to me, at least for a f/i setup. And as much as I hate saying it, Id like to know what the breaking point is of a new 5.0.

Ive got about a year before I make a move, just not exactly sure which way to go? By then my 05 will be ready for its Whipple, the Gt500s should come down a little in price and a used 5.0 shouldnt be hard to find (minus the 5k depreciation of a new car!).

But no matter what I choose, I know Ill have a bad ass ride. And thats all that matters to me.:D

I was in the same place a couple of months ago. I went with the 2011 because of the driving experience. My car absolutely spoils me every time I drive it. The electronics package, brembo package and high reving 5.0 sealed the deal. A few simple mods and it will be up to over 400 rwhp. Which is highly respectable.

Drive them both the decide.

Well today I drove the 2011 GT500 ....well apart from the fact that they had to go clean the leather from my excitement:banana: I did notice alot of things that make this car really nice. For starters the interior is very comfortable and second the factory shifter makes my TKO with a shorty throw feel like im shifting a SEMI truck. The car is very docile for being a 550 hp freak..and driving it daily is very pleasing due to that the steering is very smooth and the clutch is like well....:nice: it takes more effort to shift my mini.. I will say that ford and SVT really did a good ...scratch that great job with this rendition.. :hail2: However 50k is out of my price range but how can you go wrong, what else does 50k get you?

Anyways I guess I can wait to 2014:eek: Or maybe not...I did drive a 2008 and I was just as happy...not as a refined of a machine yet...refined compare to my 94 and yet smashing the right foot makes me:D

I will be at the dealer again tommorow with donuts and bagels and a fake mustache the next day untill I get :ban:

you messed up by driving a 2011 GT500 first. Nothing will hold a candle so just suck it up and figure out how you are going to get the extra money to buy it. You would be really surprised how low the invoice is for the GT500.

If you happen to live near Dallas, texas. I know of a dealership that has 3 brand new 09 GT500s that they sent off to a marketing group and ending up getting them back.

I was testing driving the new 11' GT and the salesman was pushing hard for me to look at those GT500s. I want to say they were in the 45,000 range, but I honestly can't remember.

I will get over it...:bs: However I have always love the 07-09 model since its announcement. Plus I test drove an 08 and it is plenty nice. I am looking to spend around mid 30ish

I have decided to not buy a GT...I dont knock a GT its just not for me. The Cobra is a more exclusive car without ever even changing its rims. I just sold my 94 GT that was modified soup to nuts and got pennies for it. And it still didnt have the resale value of a cobra. I was looking at the GT with an honest effort and then caught myself saying well I can do this and that just to make it look different. You know its a brand new car I should not want to mess with it. But I did and I didnt even have it yet. Although the 5.0 is an awsome motor the GT is still not a Cobra.

Well I see people might be leaning towards a 2011, as more of a daily driver which is what I am looking for. What would not make the Shelby a good DD I shifts like butter and has all the comforts a GT has.

As for it being heavy up front. Most people won't push it that far to really feel it , at least I know I won't.

Any Shelby owners in here what do you like and dislike about the car.
Hi . Well i've had my 2010 GT500 for 12 months now . I can't help but smile when i get in and drive it . I get so many people giving thumbs up ,kids and people stop and point when your driving . The feeling is incredible . As for being a good daily driver , i would say no problem . We have some of the worst roads here where i live ( Northern Ontario Canada ) and the Shelby does real well , no bangs or crashes or scrapes .
Can't complain about the gas mileage , only one thing from me is the tires . When it gets cold , the tires get super hard . Just learn to drive according to he conditions . I love this car .

And how many people can tell the difference between a 2010 GT500 and a 2011?

I think they are a great buy right now at approx $40,000

I think you should look at getting an 07 Shelby from California. Maybe dark color with light stripe.

There is no problem with Shelby as DD, I think theyre point is that most people dont want to "devalue" such a nice car. Unless the car is a "classic", I think you should drive the car you like to drive.

My reasons for not going your route are mainly I dont like shifting. I like the Autos, so On the GT that's on the way, I ordered it MY WAY, and by the time I throw the Spyders on it and paint the hood with a black stripe, mine too will be unique.

Hope my suggestion works out for you.
