Opinions: '87 LX hatch or '85 GT?

Here's the scoop:

I have an '87 LX hatch 5.0--5 spd, white with tan interior. Car is in very good original condition, though I need to touch up the original paint in a few spots. 95k original miles. Mechanically tip top--except for a minor oil pan gasket leak.

I do like the car, but have always wanted an '85 GT (Dad had a brand new one when I was a kid).

I'm thinking of selling my '87 to look for a clean '85 GT.

I know the '87 is superior mechanically in stock form--am I crazy? Thoughts?

Well my answer will always be 4 eyed, but it's your car do what ever will make you happy.

I see you've had an 85 SVO, how did you feel about that car?

Loved the SVO, though I missed the V8. I sold SVO for a profit, paid off some debt, then bought the '87.

The problems is, I just put $2,500 into the '87 to get it right, now I'm thinking about selling it.

Nice '85 GTs are few and far between too. Guess I will have to do some thinking.

Maybe instead do a 4-eye front end and sail panel conversion to your '87? A lot cheaper (and less hassle) than buying the whole car and you get to keep the EFI, the 8.8" rear end, better brakes, true dual exhaust and more modern dash. Oh yeah and 25 additional horsepower.

If you want a 85 just to relive your dads ride then get an 85 because a converted 87 is not gonna feel the same. ( had a 84 then a 86 and now have a 87 all felt very different). I agree that the 87 is a better platform but i just love the 4 eye look. either way youre in a stang... fine by me:)

I love me a 4-eye, but honestly I wouldn't go any earlier than '86, unless it was something super rare (t-top coupe, for example). The reason for that being, the older you go, the more and more mechanically inferior the cars get. '85 isn't so bad, but me likey fuel injection. *clears throat* sorry, my Chris Farley voice came out just then. Hey, it's Friday.

:D
You know i think your car and Nik's car is sexy but it takes a VERY unique 4-eye to change my mind, and so far the majority of 4-eyes dont do it for me

Did you just compliment me? Weird... :D

Well, I think I've decided to keep the '87 for now. Thanks all for the input. I'm not one for converting, so it will stay an aero car.

I have this tendency to sell cars right after I spend money on them--gonna refrain this time. Plus, it is a fun car to drive, and the EFI is just easier to deal with. But I may change my mind tomorrow...

Sell the 87 to buy an 85, you ask? That's crazy talk. Keep the 87 AND buy an 85!!!!!!!!! :D

Personally, I would change the nose of the 87....
