I've seen plenty of broken 9" rear ends in fact one in a 1000RWHP Shelby snapped the end off the pinion running on DRs plus they are heavy. A properly built 8.8 will handle plenty of power but if you are planning on seeing over 1000RWHP I'd probably look closer to the 9". The advantage of the 9" is the ease of changing gears in them.
