I'm thinking about buying a new starter for my '67 289, I've been looking at ebay for a while without getting any further...

Could someone please make a reccomandation for which starter I should get?

Get a new style one from a 91-93 Fox. Make sure you match your application as far as manual or auto.

Then you just run a jumper wire from the solenoid on the new starter with the power wire going from your stock solenoid to the starter.. If that makes sense.

I bought mine at Autozone for about 40 or 50 bucks. I can't recall whether they had the $50 one with the lifetime warranty in stock, but that seems like a pretty good deal.

I had one from them in the 90s, and it worked well until the engine was out of the car for 18 months. I wasn't able to use the warranty on that one because of location and time pressures, but I've been pretty happy with them on other items.

OTOH: the replacement for my earlier AZ starter came from O'Reilly's and had problems with the gear recessing out of the way of the flywheel. It caused a screaming sound that was a real mystery to me for a while.

I'd be interested in hearing why, for a cruiser or quasi-DD, you would go with the higher dollar remanufactured ones from ebay or the parts catalogs.

The mini, I understand.

Hehe, okay, the reason for my "thinking" is that it has failed me once allready. It's working fine for the moment, but I'm not that confident it won't fail again.

I do know I want a mini high torque starter, but don't know where, and which one I should buy (not necessary from ebay)

I have to agree.... Either you do or don't need one unless you have to much money and like throwing it away.

If you insist......Get a mini for your engine/tranny setup. It must match the flywheel and mount opening correctly. Not all do.

I have a 289 with c4, so then, anyone know what kind of flywheel i have? And what do you mean about mount opening?
