Update: Tried using the new repo-type cast 289 Hipo headers, but the exhaust ports on the passanger side did not line up with the exhaust ports of the AFR heads. Found the Patriot Tri-y ceramic headers fit nicely with a little modification to the bell housing and clutch Z-bar on 4 speed car. I had to trim the bell housing at the edge where the starter motor is mounted; needed about a 1/4" trimmed off so the header tube cleared the bell housing. To make things fit on the drivers side, for the transmission clutch linkage I had a Z-bar made by a local machine shop. The new one is similar to a hipo Z-bar, except the lower end where the lower clutch adjusting rod connects is made about a 1/2" shorter than a hi-po Z-bar so it clears the header tubes that run under the Z-bar (hopefully that makes sense). By the way, a big thanks to American Mustang in Sacramento for taking back the cast 289 hi-po headers that are improperly made, and giving me credit toward the Patriot Tri-ys. Another comment is, why don't the manufactures make parts that fit as they state? Must be that no one who works for the manufacture has the guts to tell their bosses that the parts they make really "don't fit", or the manufactures really don't give a damn as long as they can sell what they are already making!
