Alright now that gears are out of the way, its time to begin researching my next mod. Among those being considered are cams. However, I have the stock TB/plenum and exhaust manifolds (although I do have an O/R midpipe and catback). I most likely would change the TB/plenum shortly after but headers are not an option in the foreseeable future (just waaaaaay too expensive).

So basically, would a nice set of cams just be a waste on a stock manifold motor?

You should still get some decent gains. Obviously the headers will help but cams are a great power adder. I saw a dyno of a guy's GT- getting dyno tuned after hitech stage II's were installed- other mods: udp's, CAI, stock H pipe w/ no cats, weld-in flows - the stang ended putting out 280rwhp/291tq on a dynojet. Not bad numbers for an essentially stock mustang :flag:

Oh wow, hmmmm that definitely is helping me out in my decision

Absolutely worth it. My CMS Stage 1 work with stock springs and you should see gains of 20-25rwhp peak-to-peak. even bigger gains over stock at higher rpms.

Thanks for the reply. I looked over your stg. 1 cams. Would you happen to have a dyno graph of a PI 2V with your cams? I was solely considering HiTech stg. 2's until you came along lol. The hitechs offer some pretty impressive peak numbers but Im more interested in "usable" mid-range power. I'd like to compare a graph of CMS stg. 1's with their stg. 2's.

Check out modularheadshop cams also.

If headers are way to expensive then why are cams in the price range? For the price of cams and tune the headers would be cheaper.

Well, headers would cost me at least $1000+ including install (cost of LT's, cost of shorty midpipe, cost of install). I am NOT doing a header install myself. I realize that you did your own and probably would advise me doing it myself.....but no, I refuse.

As for cams, I've helped a buddy do a cam swap on his PI 2V for free and he's agreed to help me with mine for nothing as well. So basically I only have to pay for the cams themselves (not going to go with cams that require any other valvetrain work), which would be roughly half the cost of what a pair of LT's would cost me installed.

So, not only would cams be a lot cheaper to do, but the performance result would be quadruple that of what headers would offer. Seems like a no-brainer to me

In the mean time, try checking some pullies. Prolly the next best mod after exhaust, and its fairly cheap too. And always go with Steeda.....

and if u fall about three hundred dollars short for ur cams....go with nitrous haha.

I thought about nitrous. However, it just isn't worth it when it comes to my particular circumstances. I much prefer power that is "always there". I very rarely go to the strip (our closest strip is about an hour away and basically sucks balls) and I never street race......so nitrous would just be a waste for me

Cams, on the other hand, would add a nice 20-40rwhp throughout the RPM range (depending on specs) and would feel mighty good wherever I am :nice:
