1967 wheel swapping fun (with modem-choking pictures goodness)

Hey guys... good thread. I remember going thru this a few years back. I ended up with the wheels from Vintage Wheel works.

Hey... off topic a little... how well does the Duplicolor paint work on the wheels. I just picked up a clean 92' and was thinking of painting the factory wheels black.

I got sideswiped in '92 on the driver door, hence the primer. Then I got married in '95, had kids in '98, became Mr. Mom for 4 years (no $$$ for car), painted the car epoxy primer black then that faded and flaked off in the sun, then got a decent job last year and started bodywork a few months ago. So that's where I'm at. The car's a rust bucket so I'm doing what I can so I can just drive it because I'm tired of it looking like crap. I'll save the rotisserie-style resto for when my kids are in high school, which I'm sure will come sooner than expected.

Duplicolor works well. Don't do it if you're in a hurry or have any type of appointment that day. You'll pretty much need an entire day. All you need to do is scuff the old paint up a bit, make sure it is very clean using mineral spirits or brake clean, and shoot. Follow the can's directions - they work. Do the brake side first, then between the spokes, saving the main spokes for last. Otherwise the overspray gets all over the place. Since it dries fast it'll look like you dusted powder on the surfaces you thought you were already done with. The overspray can be flattened by the final wet coat. I used about a can and a half for my four wheels including the brake side.

I'd use one of those rattle-can triggers, or risk paint building up on your finger which can cause the nozzle to spatter. Not a big deal with solid colors, but with the metallics such as the one I used a big enough drip is very noticeable.

I'm torn between the new GT500 wheels and the 18" Bullitts. Problem with the GT500s is they don't make them narrower than 9" (17x9 or 18x9.5), which I'm not sure if they'll fit in the front...
 
Neato, some of them look more like 19s though. I believe it's been determined that 9" in front is out of the question for a daily driver.

Look at these threads, 8" is the practical maximum for 67-70 and they have the tech to prove it. Someone claiming 9" in front and showing all their pics without explaining how it works doesn't count.

Update, I have found tire rub marks on the edges of the spring tower. Seems that these tires are rubbing at full lock with full bump. But then I have less than 1" of clearance before hitting the bumpstops, so keep that in mind.
 
Hi Ron67fb, I have 18x7.5 rims with a +42 offset. I was going to use a 1" adapter as well but in your last post you found tire rubbing. Did you correct the problem? What size do you think I should use being that my rims have a +42 offset?
