Waterpump

  • Sponsors (?)

I have a 90 lx notchback and I just recently deleted the a/c, smog pump and powersteering. My question is since I removed these things will I have to change out the waterpump because of the rotation?

Here's what I did...

I went and bought the ford kit for a/c delete FMS-M-8511-A50. It moves the power steering pump into the place where the a/c compressor was. The smog pump didn't matter.

So now I just use a short belt.

I would say unless you buy one of the a/c delete kit pulleys or an idler pulley to mount somewhere on the drivers side you will have to.

I have only the crank, alt(mounted on the drivers side) and water pump and I went with a standard rotation pump and deleted all the brackets and tensioner. I have the moroso kit for my alt. which came with a turnbuckle for belt tenstion.

Go to autozone and ask for a water pump for a 1990 town car. it will look exactly the same as a 5.0 but the impeller and flow channels will be like the one above in the pictures of this red mustang. Its like 40 dollars.

Ok so I bought the standard rotation waterpump but now the stock WP pulley wont go on because the bolt holes wont line up.

Check out page 6 on the thread below. There are a few comments about ASP making a ribbed pulley for standard and reverse rotation water pumps. About halfway down page 6 is a red pulley the is probably what you need. It has two different bolt patterns.

Hope that helps,
