Carb Help

I am trying to decide what brand carb to get for my 393W(550hp). It's a street strip 67 coupe with a modified C-4 now but I will be installing a t56 in a year or two. I had a 750 Holley with all the proform goodies and had too much trouble tuning it. I borrowed a Demon 575cfm from a friend (I know its too small) just to see how it would work and it was a huge improvement. I want an electric choke. I am torn between a Quickfuel 750 SS and a 750 Demon. Any advise or endorsements would be appreciated.

I have a 750 dp Proform main body carb with new quick fuel base plate and metering plates, 4 corner idle. Carb is brand new except for the old fuel bowls and floats. I used it for dyno tuning only. I have a 347 and it ran ever so slightly better with a Mighty Demon 650. Tuning it was easy and it ran great. I lost 3 hp with it is all. the flow numbers showed that I did not need 750cfm. I would sell it if interested. No choke on either carb

Hi
One of my best carb experiences was had by contacting Patrick of ProSystems. After providing him with my specs and expectations he put together a carb that ran super out of the box. it is a 680 CFM Holly DP XE series.
It does not have a choke which. At first, no choke, concerned me but after his assurance and my my actual practice, I didn't need one. A choke impedes performance anyway. All it takes, is a couple of qwik squirts and the engine fires up! I hold it at 12-1500 for about 30-45 seconds.
The AFR profile is about as near perfect as one can get OTB.
Good Luck!

I have a Holley 950 HP (double pumper) on the stroked FE in my 68 vert. The four corner idle is great - starts right up and idles well when cold even without a choke. Drivability is excellent.

Hey Doogie, I don't remember seeing you around the Beaver this year. How close are you on your project?

My 2 cents. Don't rule out the Holley 950 HP as they are a decent carb for a track run 393 with a stick. Works well for me. The 750 HP was a great street carb, but it took modding the high speed bleeds for me to get it rich enough for the track. The HP's are worlds better than the run of the mill double pumpers.

Since I do not have hands-on experience with the other carbs on this combination, I'll let others respond.

Hi Dennis112, I got the car on the road but I am still working out all the bugs. It is scary fast but I hate the automatic. I want to go back to a stick. I just bought a T56 that I plan to rebuild/upgrade. I just ordered a custom Quick Fuel SS 750. This winter will be focused on getting a 9" installed. I will run the car next year at The Beaver. What was your best time this past season?
