My 2011 5.0 goes in to the dealership tomorrow for the tick. Its not the "ignitor tick" that Ive heard but mine seems to be coming from the passenger side at the rear more towards the bottom. It increases with RPM and is present at idle but seems to go away above 2000 RPM. I noticed it the minute I got it home. Seems to be getting louder and more intermittent a bit but its there and drives me nuts. I was going to change the oil and filter first and see what I got ( Walmart has Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic for $20 for a 5 quart jug) but Im gonna see what Ford says/does first. These cars shouldnt be doing this. Im at about 1400 miles on the car. Also at times the car seems to have a misfire/choppy idle. Love this car, hope they get this righted and it'll put another 5.0 in Fords system with a ticking issue. I WILL STRESS NO GEAR OIL IN MY CAR THATS FOR DAMN SURE. :notnice:

What a joke. Greenway Ford in Morris says they hear the tick but did nothing to look into it. I asked them to check the exhaust for leaks but they didnt really dig into it. To me it sounds like a header leak. The service manager had the balls to tell me "you seem really anal about this car". I said well, Im anal that a $30,000 car with 2000 miles ticks. Gonna take it to another dealer that sells more Mustangs and see what they say. :notnice:

penzoil platinum, nor mobile 1 synthetic or most any other major brand of oil meet ford's WSS-M2C930-A certification requirements that motorcraft oil (which the cars come with from the factory) meets.

Amsoil DOES however and is considered from what I've gathered to be the aftermarket oil of choice if you're wanting to put something better into the engine aside from motorcraft synthetic.

this is what will most likely be going into my car in about 1500 more miles.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil and Engine Oil

It costs about the same as the other big name fully synthetic products but is tested to higher standards.

Royal purple also make a suitable substitute as well but is more expensive.
