Where are you finding C4s with 5 and 5. I have never seen a C4 with 5 in the direct, and very few had 5 in the forward. My MII C4 lasted about 50 passes with just a valvebody running 6.70s in the 1/8. It broke 2 8" rear ends before the direct clutch gave up. The bell housings don't work well in the older cars, but changing it is no big deal. If you already have a C4 in the car you can use the bell, flex plate and block plate, but unless it is a 70+ C4 you will need a different converter. If it is fresh and a good build it won't be any weaker than 95% of other C4s. Very few had 5 clutch forwards and the direct clutch is usually the one to fail.
