Runs rough under ~2K RPM... ?

My '00 GT runs rough after it warms up (or after I get on it pretty good), but it is only running rough under ~2K RPM. Above that everything seems pretty normal. I can feel "burps" of hesitation at the low RPMs and my shifter does a "dance" because the engine is running rather rough.

I put copper plugs in it myself, and I believe that was 10K to 14K miles ago. They only last about that long, right? Also, I have the original plug wires after >74K miles. This is not cool, no?

Anyway, just looking for some ideas so I can add all needed parts to an internet order after I get paid. Thanks, everyone.

whats up? hey did you try to change the fuel filter, if not try that! Is the check engine light on?:nice:

I did the fuel filter when I did the plugs, so I am pretty sure it isn't the fuel filter.

Also, I really noticed it for the first time this morning on the way to run some errands. I didn't see a check engine light, but my gauge faces weren't really installed right by the previous owner, so it's hard to see those lights in strong sunlight. The bulb could have burned out too, I guess. It is an 8 year old car.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

if you have access to an obd11 tester check the troublecodes, you probably have a bad maf sensor or o2 sensor, sounds minor, possibly a sticking injector, hope this is helpful for you!!!:SNSign:

Sorry, I haven't logged in for a while, and I had PMs on this thread.

I found this issue was caused by faulty cyl1 and cyl2 COP (coil on plug) boots. I got a couple replacements at Kragen (<$5 ea) and put new plugs in the same time. Haven't had problems, since.

The plugs in cyl1 and 2 were corroded where they connected to their COP from all the water that was allowed to leak into the cylinder from the faulty boots. Oh, and I eventually did get codes thrown. They were for misfires in cyl1 and cyl2. That's when I pulled the plugs out and saw all the rust in the cylinder holes and on the COP and sparkplug surfaces.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead, and not following up when I found the solution, last year.

I'm not sure I understand the notion behind resurrecting a thread that's been dead and buried for almost 2 years to give follow-up...
B/c so many people come here for help and don't let us know what the final solution is. A follow up would let others know, whom which are researching there problems, what to look for.
I used to post in tech and give an honest researched answer but a follow up from O.p.s was rare so I just quit posting and trying to help. I just like reading the tech posts.

But it was the OP of the thread that brought it back to life. I just find that strange that upwards of a year and half passes since the last post in the thread and the OP felt a compulsion to come back, search the archives for that post and reply... A year and a half is a long time in TeH InTeRweBz.

I appreciate closure as much as the next guy but again, this kind of thing is just strange.

This site pisses me off a little more every time I log on. If you don't care about someone posting a solution then don't comment on it, move on to the next thread. There's a growing number of thread police on here and it really hurts certain people's feelings to see someone ask about a CAI, catback, what gear ratio to go with, what the cheapest mods are... etc. Why?

People get information by sharing it, that's how places like this work. I too have searched for relevant threads, found them, looked through them only to find no update or solution given and it's a waste of time at that point.

So OP, thanks for clearing up your issue. I changed all of my boots/wires a few years ago and it helped a little in regard to a similar problem. I have at least 1 coil that misfires at complete random though, and the boots/wires didn't fix that.
